As the title states, old stuff. I found a box of prints in my garage. Most/all were rejects or extras, most of the stuff was probably published. When you make wet prints you go through a lot of paper getting it right. This was a box of those "trying to get it right". Usually, I saved my rejects and passed them on to a high school photo teacher who would use them as teaching aids. This box never made it out to my old high school.
I'll add a photo a day until you peoples get bored, I get bored or I run out of inventory.

Subtle but dark and sinister. There's a hint of a story there.

Gary: Your posts and some recent re-currents by Bjørn let me think of posting some scanned memories or even scan some new from my archives. It was so bad then the quality of 24x36 qmm.
But of course technical quality only leads us to unknown details in the world around us like all the gripping and griping and grabbing I saw today in bee's "hands".
The expression in a good portrait of the film age (I started off in 1983 and I am still proud of some shots I took on my very first roll of film) is the same as we see in today's portraits. Only difference is that we can today take proper technique out in the field and current tools of course and create a shot that earlier in life would have needed 4"x5" or at least 6x7 qcm.
I am getting 49 next month, you have seen the world a few years longer, have you?
Very good concept to review our work with the distance of some years. A lot of shots fall to the sides, but some make center stage later.
Thank You for inspiring.

Not going to get bored by your shots anytime soon ;)

LOL ... noooooo. This was back in the 1970's. Whatever Nikkor f/4 300mm lens Nikon made, this was it.

No f/4 in that focal length in the '70s, but 300/4.5 Nikkor-H (or -P) existed.

Yes. These are all scanned about a decade ago ... by today's standards, crummy scanner, crummy software and no post processing. I probably should go back and perform some PhotoShop magic ... but I'm too lazy. I have been removing my HCB, super-egotistical, no-crop black borders from my old stuff. But that is done in the little free processing program included with my Smugmug account.

maybe I am a bit nostalgic (I think) but there is only ONE reason for taking photos. It is so someone can look at them. That's all we really want - for people to look. To Share. To reminisce with us.
If the images are of the right moment time and place - it (now-a-days) goes viral quick quick (thanks Facebook) and then its all over in a day/week.
So to get the opportunity to reflect on old photos again not only by yourself - but sharing them in the process - is important to us. We want to share and tell the story that accompanies the photos. Because often those moments we snapped formed our experiences, our thought processes and our lives. Even in a small way.
Think of it this way:
A Person goes to work in a shopping mall selling handbags - he does this every day and have a few funny stories to tell over the years, about what happens at work. And forgotten before the week is over.
Photographer goes to work - on a shoot - he has photographic evidence about (his and other people's) life. His reflection on life - has value no money can buy.

I am terribly competitive. At the time, we, (fellow news photogs and I), were betting at how close and how long ... how many games, I could go before getting knocked down. I can't find the image, but there is a shot of me, straight as a flagpole, bent at the neck, shooting straight down with a wide-receiver literally lying on my feet. I did a lot of twisting and side stepping during those games ... similar to a matador. I finally got knocked down when a female photographer fell down behind me while running away from oncoming linebackers. At the time I was backing up, quickly walking backwards and didn't see her prone body behind my knees and down I went.

Thank you Frank. That thing is big ... like the size of a small apartment building. Just to conceive and think that it is possible to design, build and launch an apartment building into space ... successfully ... is beyond my imagination. I covered a lot of the early Space Shuttle landings. The first Shuttle that was launched into space was was the Columbia. I vividly remember being in the Edwards AFB cafeteria and noticing some gentlemen walking by, each wearing patches on their jackets identifying them as members of "Rockwell - Space Division". I thought to myself ... most countries in the world don't even have a "Space Division" ...

This wasn't a big deal ... or a good story. The location was Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. The Angels, (pro baseball team), just won their division for the first time. The fans went nuts rushing onto the playing field and generally running around. Some were stealing the bases. The Anaheim Police, who were not known for either their consideration or intelligence also rushed onto the field beating up fans and Mace-ing (tear gas) youngsters. This was pretty good stuff photo-wise. I shot from the stands as I was pushing deadlines and didn't want to get Maced. On my way out of the stadium I see some plain clothed cops pushing the face of an AP photographer into the wall of a concrete tunnel. So I started shooting that. The cops handcuffed him and started pushing George out towards the stadium offices. I rushed downstairs and resumed taking photos of the arrest. I took one last photo (above), turned and very quickly started walking away when the cops grabbed me from behind and arrested me as well. The Anaheim Police thought this was the perfect opportunity to teach the media a lesson and the thing went to trial. I was found innocent, the DA dropped the charges against the AP photog.

Generally, you are correct. A week after my trial one of our reporters was working on a story which didn't show Anaheim Police in a very good light, received four traffic tickets in one block.
On the flip side, a few cop asked me why I was there, (when I was handcuffed behind my back, at the stadium Police Station and all my equipment was painfully weighing down upon my wrists) ... just shook their heads in disgust with their brethren cops after I told them what happened.

If you want more details, I'll supply them.
For example, the first Space Shuttle landing ... I remember it was Winter and out here, the deserts will freeze at night. We, (I managed a credential for my cousin and he came along ... well, it was the first landing and a big event.), arrived in the middle of the night because the landing was scheduled for the early morning. We were camped out along this huge dry lake bed, freezing in total inky blackness. The coffee we took got cold real fast ... so we switched to beer. We figured that regardless of ambient temperature, cold beer was better than cold coffee. ;D (I don't remember where we got the beer.) FYI- Edwards AFB is about an hour ... an hour 20 minutes from downtown LA.

Absolutely love it. You never see this state of mind in the OLD world.
The legend of the solitary cowboy ... facing a hostile environment armed only with his wits, quick reactions and a pair of six shooters. LOL ... Those times were only for a short period of our history, especially when viewed by European chronology ... only a few minutes of time. But our western movies did make an indelible impression on the world. In California, back in the 'Old West' days there was a saying in California ... "Give me men to match my mountains". (The highest peak in the Continental United States is Mt. Whitney in California's Sierra Nevada.)
PS- I think Cervantes' knight errand pretty much duplicates our Cowboy. ;D

Moi and B. Lachman

Nikon F, Tri-X
I went back and forth trying to decide tn posting this or not post this, for the obvious reasons. I finally went with post largely because of the camera. The faithful Nikon F around my neck. What a great camera, simple, solid and dependable. As camera get increasingly complex, for me it is hard to get an attachment. The story here, is the LA Times Biking and Dining Society. The Chief photog would organized bike rides for company people. The guy on the right is Bob Lachman, another Times photographer. This ride was in the Venice/Playa del Mar area of Los Angeles. I was really into cycling back then. I lived a block from the beach and rode handmade racing bike along the beach bikepath practically day. Recently, I've had my old racing bike restored ... it is still a beautiful bike.
-
Gary, may I repeat myself and say that your images are a true joy.
I have never used the Nikon F, nor have I used such socks :)

I never used a F but can't say as much about the socks...
Nice to see you, Gary

Hey, those socks were 8) ... (would you believe me if I told you they were PhotoShopped?)

Unfortunately I read your comment about the socks before looking at the image. So I totally see it -but for the wrong reason :)
It is a really great shot, and one I hope you look back at - and have great memories of that time.
But those short shorts... oh my hat - what were we thinking with some of the stuff we wore decades ago. And we all did wear weird stuff - someway or another

LOL ... I thought I was getting off easy with only the socks ... thank you Elsa for bringing up the shorts. :P
The rides were fun. Working news, one works very independently and away from the office more often than not. The rides gave us an opportunity to chat with our fellow co-workers. Most people have a very difficult time relating to journalists ... sorta like cops ... it takes another cop to appreciate a cop story. So hanging out with your own kind was fun, relaxing and therapeutic.

I don't specifically remember details of the story, as this was a many decades ago ... but, very substantial number of the refugees stemming from the Vietnam War ended up in Orange County, California. Many of the unenlightened, ignorant, bigoted, white, folk in Orange County were displeased with a sudden concentration of Asians appeared in their community. The photo was from a public hearing (forum) addressing/hearing-out the concerns of established residents and the immigrants.

Panorama Fire
San Bernardino, California
Nikon F2/Tri-X
This is a shot of moi. My best friend in college, Chris Hardy, was working for the San Francisco Examiner and came down to San Bernardino to cover the Panorama fire. It was a big brush fire that eventually destroyed the northern part of the city. We hooked up and started walking up a dirt fire road towards the fire. We rounded a switchback when approximately 20 firefighters came running down the road, single file, right past us. They were so intent on fleeing that they didn't even look at Chris and me. As the firefighters ran by, I glanced at Chris, giving him my, Mr. Spock one raised eyebrow look. Chris snapped a picture.
I am armed with a F2 and a FM. On the F2 is a Nikkor 135mm and the FM is sporting a Nikkor 28mm. Under my left arm, I am sporting a Domke camera bag, purchased back when Jim was making them out of his garage. (There is Duct Tape holding the battery compartments doors shut on both cameras. :) )

Gary, a great image and a great story.
Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for this entire thread!!!
LOL ... I had so much stuff in the car that if someone peeked into the trunk I'd look like a survivalist. The goggles, respirator, rubber boots, were all with me on a daily basis. The jacket was nylon with a cotton lining. Wind blown embers were burning through the nylon, the liner, my shirt and ultimately me. This was a pretty good/bad fire ... I remember embers landing in my hair ... I'd slap the ember to put them out and instead of extinguishing the ember ... the ember would burn my hand.
-

My Uncle has lived many years in Topanga Canyon and has had the fires right up to the house a couple of times,,, scary stuff!
The brush in the foothills is called Chaparral. The brush is very thick and designed for fire, the wood and leaves are resinous/oily and gives off 'terpenes' which is highly volatile. In the dry heat of summer and fall, chaparral is ... well ... explosive. Many seeds require a fire trigger to germinate and stump sprouting is a normal characteristic for most of the indigenous plants.
But I digress ... lol ... So Chris and I sorta shrugged and continue walking up the fireroad. We round the next switchback, and there's this huge wall of flames, but fortunately the wind was blowing from our backs into the fire. The flames had to be reaching 40 to 60 feet tall ... but it wasn't moving. So Chris runs up to the wall of fire and waves ... then I. It was a good day.

How was Nicaragua, Gary?

It was not as ... violent and nor was it as widely and ruthlessly horrific as other war zones. I corrected the ID of the image, those were Sandinistas not Contras. This was the battle to remove Somoza from power and not the latter battle to remove the Sandinistas from power. I felt relatively safe as there were CIA (spooks) in nearly every bar and every corner.

Yes, In 'Nam. (He seemed to hang out in southern Vietnam/Saigon, with the US Army and I sorta hung out in the north with the US Marines. And the Middle East, (Beirut IIRC). He was one of a handful of photojournalists we lesser photogs called "Shooters". As in, "Hey, there goes Larry Burrows." Which would be answered with "Yeah ... he's a Shooter." McCullin is a Shooter.

Gary, I am curious to learn how you determine if you're in somebody's league or not?
What separates you from the shooters?
Is it the fame, the newspapers and magazines that they worked for, access to areas of interest, gear, backing or sponsorship, money earned, etc.?
Or do you simply believe that the shooter's photos are better than yours?
If so, what don't your photos have that the shooter's photos have?
The boxer looks like Richard Pryor :)

Gary, I am curious to learn how you determine if you're in somebody's league or not?
What separates you from the shooters? ...
Jakov ... there are no simple answers and every photographer and situation is different. I think journalism/photojournalism is much different now than back when i was shooting. Back in the film-only days, a newspaper or magazine required that you be a journalist first and a photog secondarily. Yes, photographic expertise was vitally important, but journalistic skills were more important, knowing how to cover a story ... knowing what to shoot was more important than knowing how to shoot. I think news has taken a turn that drama in the photograph is more important than accuracy.
But I digress ... I think a photojournalist needed three basic elements:
1) Photographic Skills, (previsualization/vision- instinctively knowing what lens and settings to use, where to be to dramatically capture the story and the darkroom/processing skills that will bring your previsualization to life);
2) Journalistic Skills (One needs to have a nose for the story ... to be able to sniff out a story from a few clues ... this ability translates to the photojournalist as being in the right spot at the right time.): and
3) Huevos, (as we say in this neck of the woods ... big brass ones. For the journalist/photojournalist, it is all about the story ... it is all about doing your job. One's personal safety is secondary. It isn't that your personal safety is unimportant ... if your are seriously injured, you can't get the story or equally importantly you can't get the story out ... in either case, you're not doing your job.)
My 'Shooters', the photogs I respected and attempted to emulate, had all those elements in buckets. I used enthusiasm to camouflage my deficiencies.

Did you check out the beaches for waves and prospects for surfing? (Apocalypse Now)
Seriously, weren't you ever frightened that a mortar or a sniper or the likes could have ended your life right there?
The kick and adrenaline must be addictive. Do you miss it?
Being from Southern California and a degree in Biology (Marine), the oceans were my retreats from the stress of work. While I did and could surf, I never considered myself a surfer. I did partake in snorkeling and bodysurfing for R&R.
Yes, you were concerned. But those were just statistics and such harm would never happen to you. If one truly thought that their life would be cut short by the action around them ... then what the hell were they doing there in the first place. This topic requires another voluminous and complex response to be reasonably comprehensive. But in a nutshell ... In 'Nam I saw journalists fly in ... look around for a few days ... then take the next plane out. In retrospect, I think those 'escaped' early, may have had more courage than those of us that stayed out of ignorance, peer pressure or the desire to propel one's career upward by earning a war correspondent credential. I took my personal safety seriously and was always extremely aware of the action around me and what others were doing for their own personal safety.
I had to accept and endure looks of .... well ... glaring hatred, by the rank and file troops, ('grunts') ... when they found out I was a volunteer. I didn't get it at first. But after awhile it dawned on me that every single one of them (grunts) would take the next plane out of there if they could. If the next-plane-out opportunity was available to me, why didn't I take it. The grunts couldn't understand how someone who wielded such importance and responsibility as to be read/viewed by millions daily ... didn't have the brains to get the F*** out. And more importantly, the grunts couldn't fathom how I could regard my life so cheaply.
It is hard to come back after spending months or a year covering something as extreme and volatile as war, to take photos of the mayor giving a speech. Every time you came back, you swore never to go out again ... but in your gut you missed all the action and constantly scanned the headlines for the next hotspot ... the next firefight, in the world.
"I love the smell of napalm in the morning." Apocalypse Now
PS- Apocalypse Now, I think, was a very accurate description of the Vietnam War. Across the entire history of the war, I believe every scene in the movie occurred at one time or another.

Excellent images!
Considered making a book with these?
Thank you Ole Gammelsaeter. No, no book. Most of these are mainly leftovers and misprints. I think that most photojournalists, who worked for a major market newspaper/wire service, would have similar stuff ... so what you are seeing isn't exceptional/book worthy in my opinion. If I tried real real hard, I possibly could get into the morgues of the Times, OC News and UPI to get my hands on my good stuff, stuff that was published. While I shot these images, the negs belong to the company that paid my weekly salary. So I say a book isn't in my future because:
1) I don't own the negs;
2) This isn't my best stuff, and
3) I'm terribly lazy.
I do have a book I wrote cover my Vietnam experience ... I may publish that.

Gary, you may have shot the director in Hollywood, California, but it screams New York to me :)
It was one of those few rainy days in LA. Her office was in an older, art-deco type building in Hollywood. This was a feature story on a director who was into the 'punk' scene and also directed 'punk' style movies. She was a very nice lady, but she wanted to reflect her 'punk' persona in the newspaper. (This was the LA Times which was read by all the movie industry power brokers in town.) So the typical sitting behind the desk, phone up to an ear and the other hand scribbling on a pad of paper was out ... the lighting sucked in the office, but the overcast day really softened and diffused the the light in these wonderful window ledge/bay. So I stuffed her in the window, she put on her punk face and everything sorta came together.
-
#46 ... The attitude !
LOL. An odd story regarding this photo. A few years ago, I befriended a guy from another photo forum who lived in San Diego. He was traveling up to Los Angeles and I invited him over. He was an older guy like me, but was new to photography. As we chatted, I asked him if he's ever seen the 'real McCoy' a bonafide, hand crafted B&W photographs. He said no and that he would love to see the 'real' thing up-close. So I dug out this box I found in the garage. We're going through the box and came upon the above photo and David asks, "Is that Penelope Spheeris?". I look at him with wonderment written across my face and I said yes it was, the punk movie director. David starts laughing and says that he used to date her sister in high school, down in Westminster (a little town in Orange County), and that he was madly in love with Penelope since high school. Small world...

Lovely story yet again, Gary.
Yes, the world can be so tiny sometimes...
-
I feel photographers should always retain the copyright of their work.
The one paying the weekly wages should get lifetime rights of usage but the Negatives and
probably the right to publish without the photographers name? No. I do not think this is fair AND
in Germany it would even be unlawful.
-
Great pictures.
The Sandinistas? Iconic.
The Bodybuilder? Kinky & imaginative.
The Boxer? Intense.
Penelope? I felt she was a boy. Lick my P* attitute.
The pelican seems a bit overcoocked for my taste.

Nice punky portrait ;) Was she not the main director mentioned in that feature story?

Yes, the newspaper story was about Penelope Spheeris, this up and coming director who not only directed punk movies but was also a punk herself.

Death of a Storekeeper

A robbery gone bad and the robber killed the shop owner. Apparently, the owner was a very nice guy and help the neighborhood people with small loans, free food, et cetera. Upon his death, the neighborhood came out to give their final regards.

The Artist- I wanted to show him in a different light than a normal newspaper portrait. The shot was taken in his studio using his lights with one of his pieces in the background. This is what I ended up with.

Gary, what were you doing next to a private investigator :)
Did you hire him?
-
oy old boy - the images are great - love the last one !
-
The portait of the private eye is so lively I feel his presence
-
Yes, I agree. Very effective with that 'Private Eye'.
-
Just a great proportion between B and W ! I could have thought it was a younger Bruce Willis (who did start acting as a private detective) :)
Superbe... :D
-
He resembles me of Joe Spano who played Lt. Henry Goldblume in Hill Street Blues. ;)
-
Gary, what were you doing next to a private investigator :)

Thank you Jakov. This was a story of a pair of high-end PI's. They taught Israeli pilots hand-to-hand combat and did a lot of international spy/rescue stuff ... movie plot type stuff. (I was using a Domke bag to shoot this.)

That's how good a Domke bag is ... you don't even need a camera.

The pi portrait is just brilliant!!
I have only used b&w photo paper on a pin hole camera, so please excuse the questions ....
1. was the film tolerant to exposure mistakes? perhaps overexposing only?
2. you always show images with impressive contrast, is this normal for the kind of film you used? development process? both? ... I really like the look

Thank you Armando.
It depends on the film. Color slide requests a more precise/correct exposure than most B&W films. When first learning how to print, I discovered that your exposure (negative) had a dramatic impact upon the print. Typically, the more precise/accurate the exposure the better the negative. The better the negative, the easier to print a decent photograph. Over the years I learned how to expose Tri-X, (that was what I shot 99% of the time), and develop Tri-X to optimize for the print (at least for what I wanted for the print).
This was a very low light situation. I am very very reluctant to push Tri-X beyond ASA 1600. The gentleman was in an attic, looking out a one-way mirror inside a building. It was very dark ... so I was probably handholding the 85mm wide open, f/1.8 at around 1/15 or 1/30. My news training was to first, expose for the principal subject and don't give a rat's about anything else. Only if you have the time should you take multiple reading and give consideration to secondary subjects/elements in the photo. So I most likely spot metered off the face, braced myself for the long exposure and took the shot. Pushing film narrows the zones and increases contrast and grain.
As to the contrast. When I started printing all my prints came out muddy and gray. It took a long time to consistanty learn how to expose, develop and print decently. To be able to consistently deliver a photo with a good black and a wide range of gray zones. Contrast, in the beginning was elusive and a bit of a Holy Grail for the neophyte B&W photographer. Additionally, newspapers, back then, tended to print on ly gray, so a photo that had a touch of contrast printed better than a photo with a touch less of contrast.
As a result of all this, I am a contrast freak. I like contrast, I process for contrast. Take a look at Rick's stuff. He also used to shoot news. His stuff has a similar level of contrast as mine.

nice one - love the way he takes charge of his position

thanks for the explanation
Great train!!
-
Thank you Elsa and Armando.
To add to the story. Ward Kimball, actually owns the locomotive he is standing upon. Kimball was one of original Disney designers. He collects full size trains. In the backyard of his Alhambra, CA home, he has built a train station, complete with water tower, raised loading platform and ticket office. This is one of many train cars he owns. He named his backyard station Grizzly Flats.
-
Collecting trains... Only in the US of A...
Gary you really master the light and contrast but also your framing is super pleasing! there is a a calm balance... All makes the content of the image speak withut distraction - A true joy to see these olds school iconic PJ captures!
-
Thank you Erik. Believe me, collecting full size trains is unusual even in the US of A. Hence the story.

-

Film is easy. All I shot was Tri-X (it was free and plentiful.) The lens I can tell from memory (sometimes) and I can get close to focal length by looking at the image ... the camera is sorta by years, my earlier stuff was FTn or F (typically the F had a wide angle). Later stuff was F2/F3.

Jakov, I can see the deserved reputation of Alain Delon (arrogant man!) has crossed the French borders...
So maybe he is right when he says he is revered as a half god on the entire planet.
The shot is very intriguing, Gary, can you say more about it?
-
Is Sandy by any chance ignoring Alain Delon?
I am sure this is quite funny/amusing ... but I am ignorant, (Je suis Americain), of the reference to Delon. I recognize Delon as an old actor and I remember him in Lost Command . And, while I love movies, I am not a follower of movie star lives. Soooo .. faire chou blanc.

Nothing to this shot Olivier. Just an old g/f and a new dress. No story other than that. This was in her university dorm room, window lighting.
-
The photo looks to me like it was taken at a movie scene with Alain Delon.
It was meant as a compliment. Her sophisticated and stylish look just made me think about a thriller with Delon...
I too am not aware of Delon's personal life or his character, neither do I care. He is a movie icon and I respect him for that.
Just like I respect Woody Allen, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash, etc ...all of them Americain with an iffy personal life :)

Got it! Yes, there is a sorta raincoat/spy look to the shot.
-
It's an intriguing portrait.
I can imagine Jakov's suggestion of Delon, especially the movie Le Samourai from director Jean-Pierre Melville, with the excellent photography of Henri Decaë. I think it's a very European (French) movie.

LOL ... this was the dugout of the Angels, a pro baseball team. Pro baseball players, back then, had this baseball culture thing for 'chew' and they looked played ball looking like chipmunks with stored nuts in their cheeks. The league finally 'outlawed' the use of tobacco on the field for health reasons and the fact that it is purely disgusting.
Frank I am proud for you that finally accomplished your first real spit. (Growing up in Southern California, one learns at an early age, the timing of waves. 8) )

Helmets suck, they're hot, they're defined shape are easy to spot and they don't stop a bullet. Helmets are good for most shrapnel but pretty much useless against a bullet. Yep. me on an assignment.

#67 - My first thoughts looking at this one is that - this girl must look back at that photo and wonder where the years had gone -
nice capture

Or you can shoot many more and label them as old.
If needed can translate in French.
LOL ... hit a couple of iPhone filters and add some film borders and Viola! (Je ne pense pas que mon francais etait que la mauvaise ... Je veux dire pour un Americain. lol)

I came late to the party!
How did I manage to miss this post...
On the plus side, like watching Game of Thrones waaay after the season is finished, one does not have to wait until the next episode.
I just indulged in reading and looking at a photographic bonanza. :-)
Thanks for sharing, you definitely have already lived a life worth remembering. What's next?
There is a Chinese proverb. You experience a good life twice. One when it happens and again when you're an old fart and you remember.
What's next ... "Street", from the 1970's.

Kelly was such a truly nice person, down to her bones. She was as cute inside as she was outside. Unfortunately for me, we've went our separate ways. And yes, where have all the years gone ...
-
Gary, what an awesome way to introduce yourself and your work to the NG community.
Thank you for sharing these amazing images and the intriguing stories behind them as well as making NG an even better place to hang around in :)

Thank you Jan Anne. Hopefully, one day we can all share our photos and stories in person.

Ah, ah ! The trouble is to get access to it ! California is quite far and I don't expect to fly to the states anytime soon (If they would allow me in ). Still, Californian wines are getting better every year, have I heard from French good wine lovers... :-)

Watch the movie Bottle Shock.
I am a member of many wineries up and down the state. We would have a great time tasting wines and taking pictures.

I've heard rumors to "wine making" in SA. Can't say I believe them. ;)
(Actually, I've tasted some good stuff from SA and Chile and Australia.)
-
Gary dear - seriously..... Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Paarl is wine farm country - right on my doorstep. That is what the history of the cape is built on.

In two weeks I am heading down to Ponte Winery in Temecula for an event and an evening of grape stomping, dinner and music and I will also be picking up my fall wine shipment from Thornton. (And No, I will not be participating in the stomp.)

will you be participating in the fall?

In the grape stomp? ... I'll be too busy taking pictures.

noooooo, fall - as in FALL DOWN from all the wine.

That kind of fall ... I don't need wine to fall. But wine does make it less painful.

Gary, I come late to this thread. I have made my way through to page 3 only. I´m enjoying it big time!!! Excellent job. No rush, I will take my time to see it all.
On a side note, I just realize that Nikongear has, as today, 614 members "only". I can´t keep up. It feels like we are an army with a mission :) :) :)
-
Numbers are not important. Quality and commitment are. So far, the two latter have marched side by side and hopefully this progress will continue to make NG the place to hang out. The NG Team are all happy to be a part of this mission.
-
Just a short "Thank you for sharing some wonderful moments!".
Harald

Thank you Paco and Harald. I appreciate all the kind words. @ Bjørn, thank you for making this place ... well happen.

Gary
PS- Why are you asking? What triggered that question?
GBecause I like it as is. These old photos are authentic. Please don't re-process these images -
One more plea. I love the style. "Patrice"...wow
And the history and the stories and the action with a manual 28mm! war, space... what a trip so far. I´m at page 8
-
I remember vividly the close up american football shot :)
Gary being challenged to shoot with a wide angle lens...

Thank You Mongo.

This series exhibits a formidable talent Gary. You can bet your ass that when we play in your area, you will hear from me. I would be honored to have you shoot us!

Last active 25 May, 2016. So it has been a while.
-
He says he has got lots of work. His company either cut a really big deal or was about to cut one. Day and night work he said. Hopes to be back soon.
-
Good to know!
-
Thank you all.
-
Thank you and you are back! :)

I am very happy to have visited Gary and family in October 2016 and kept our contact. And I am so happy you are back here at this gathering of very special people with unique perspectives.
