Excuse me if I missed this in earlier replies Gary, but:
  • Have you ever shown some or all of this collection in an exhibition?
  • Have you ever considered publishing any of these?

Colin, see the first port, these are scans of rejected copies of photos which were published during the years Gary worked as a professional photo journalist.
Cheers,

Thank you -

Elsa, armando_m (my mother is a Morales), Jacques Pochoy, Jakov Minic, Frank Fremerey, ColinM and Jan Anne (for answering on my behalf :) ).

Jacques Pochoy- lol.  I think her folks wanted a boy ...  (Out here in the colonies, Patrice can go either way.)

Jakov Minic- Yes, I have tons of stories. (Don't get me started.) There is a Chinese saying that if you have a good life you live it twice. Once when it happens and again when you're old and reflect back. I'm in the reflect back category.

Great portrait ! Full of life and very characteristic of the subject :-)

maybe I am a bit nostalgic (I think) but there is only ONE reason for taking photos. It is so someone can look at them.  That's all we really want - for people to look. To Share. To reminisce  with us.
If the images are of the right moment time and place - it (now-a-days) goes viral quick quick (thanks Facebook) and then its all over in a day/week.

So to get the opportunity to reflect on old photos again not only by yourself - but sharing them in the process - is important to us. We want to share and tell the story that accompanies the photos. Because often those moments we snapped formed our experiences, our thought processes and our lives. Even in a small way.

Think of it this way:

A Person goes to work in a shopping mall selling handbags  - he does this every day and have a few funny stories to tell over the years, about what happens at work. And forgotten before the week is over.

Photographer goes to work - on a shoot - he has photographic evidence about (his and other people's) life.  His reflection on life - has value no money can buy.
"You don’t take a photograph – you make it” – Ansel Adams. Thats why I use photoshop.

LOL ... it was a bet that I couldn't shoot football with a wide angle. News photogs are always having stupid contests amongst ourselves.
