Moi and B. Lachman
Venice, California

Nikon F, Tri-X

I went back and forth trying to decide tn posting this or not post this, for the obvious reasons. I finally went with post largely because of the camera. The faithful Nikon F around my neck. What a great camera, simple, solid and dependable. As camera get increasingly complex, for me it is hard to get an attachment. The story here, is the LA Times Biking and Dining Society. The Chief photog would organized bike rides for company people. The guy on the right is Bob Lachman, another Times photographer. This ride was in the Venice/Playa del Mar area of Los Angeles. I was really into cycling back then. I lived a block from the beach and rode handmade racing bike along the beach bikepath practically day.  Recently, I've had my old racing bike restored ... it is still a beautiful bike.

Gary, may I repeat myself and say that your images are a true joy.
I have never used the Nikon F, nor have I used such socks :)

Unfortunately I read your comment about the socks before looking at the image. So I totally see it -but for the wrong reason :)
It is a really great shot, and one I hope you look back at - and have great memories of that time.
But those short shorts... oh my hat - what were we thinking with some of the stuff we wore decades ago. And we all did wear weird stuff - someway or another

LOL ... I thought I was getting off easy with only the socks ... thank you Elsa for bringing up the shorts.  :P

The rides were fun. Working news, one works very independently and away from the office more often than not. The rides gave us an opportunity to chat with our fellow co-workers. Most people have a very difficult time relating to journalists ... sorta like cops ... it takes another cop to appreciate a cop story. So hanging out with your own kind was fun, relaxing and therapeutic.

Yes, there are eight. (I'm the one that's only up to eight beers ... so far.)

Yes, it was a roller-coaster ride. But you can't ride roller coasters forever, after a while you have get off and grow up.

Not really ... not that I have anything against SoCal Girl images... the lack of such is just by happenstance.

It's okay, my Press Pass is an indestructible shield protecting me. (Actually, the trick is gaining the confidence of those who can protect you. Letting the Marines know, that you know, how not to get yourself, and more importantly, themselves killed. Otherwise, you're stuck at base camp smoking cigarettes, even though you don't smoke.)
