If you encounter DNS issues, a trick is to put nikongear.net into your HOSTS file with the IP-address 162.241.212.49 :) that will ensure the browser finds the site immediately without use of DNS.

Add the following line to the HOSTS file

162.241.212.49 nikongear.net

and remember to save the file without any extension.

On Windows systems, the file is found at <systemdrive>\windows\system32\drivers\etc; for other OS, consult manuals or search on the 'net for the information. Some systems use the name in lower case.

Is there an equivalent on non-windows devices Birna?

I'm getting the issues on my main day to day device, an Android tablet (as well as my Win 10 PC)

On most Linux systems, it is /etc/hosts. Not familiar with Apple or Android. However, do a quick 'net search and you'll find the required recipes.

Time-outs come and go. Tracert indicates the issue is not in Europe.

Apparently the time-out issue is solved now? Response is OK and tracert does not indicate any blocked connections. Might be a central network hub on the US side that had issues.

After the time out issue had once been solved, it recurred several hours ago, and that was even worse: I couldn't access the site at all.

Now it is normal again,,,

We saw a short period of site outage this morning, but it quickly resolved. Our server went offline and was unreachable through ping or tracert. Will go through the server logs later today to see if something is reported.

I have sent a support ticket to our hosting providers to complain about the last week's instability and am waiting for a response.

Added: our server was rebooted by hosting maintenance around 12:05 today UTC+2. So we either experienced a hung process or there was a local network error.
