Went to the exhibition of the photography/installation by Wolfgang Tillmans. The collection belongs to the Louis Vuitton foundation, and the visitors are allowed to take pictures of the works, not only with the phones but also with dedicated cameras!
Sigma says the fp camera automatically mitigate the flicker in P and A modes, but, apparently, its effect is limited. I should have set the shutter speed much slower...

I went to an old cemetery yesterday. It was interesting but the light was awful. I still couldn't resist taking a few photos. I was using a D3 and the 25-50/4 AI-S zoom lens. Although I was disappointed in the photos due to the light, the 25-50 acquitted itself nicely with a pleasant depth in the images.

'Our' river runs wilder by the day, signalling that snow melt in the mountains have started and there is a new spring coming.
Unfortunately, a wilder river also implies more danger. A friend of the family perished on the river just a few days ago. He wasn't the first and won't be the last.

Day length is increasing towards Summer's Solstice and shooting IR hand-held at 23:05 in the night is no problem. The sun set a few minutes prior to this capture. We are far too south to get midnight sun, but the dark night hours shrink rapidly now.
Nikon Z5 full-spectrum, Zoom-Nikkor 28-45mm f/4.5, B+W 093 IR filter. This veteran zoom lens from the late '70s, Nikon's first production model of a wide-angle zoom lens, is excellent for IR by the way.
-
Thank you Fons, much appreciated.
Birna, 23:05?! I do like a lot how that combo works for IR
-
Yes, 23:05. At sun set. I went outside on Ruth's porch to look at the setting sun and had the Z5 with me, so tried a few shots for fun. Do note the street lamps hadn't yet switched on.
The old 28-45 is not sharper than its successor, the 25-50/4, but quite superior for IR. Never seen any real hot spot with the 28-45.

In my district, the fertile agricultural landscape is dotted with ancient remains of cultures long gone, back to the Migration period 1500-2500 years ago. The burial mounds can be immense up to 50m in diametre and must have taken a huge toll in manpower to dig up dirt to construct them. These structures are protected by Law, annoying farmers who rather would raze them to make for more farmland. As of now, they jut up in the landscape and IR is perfect to shown them clearly.
Nikon Z5 full-spectrum, Nikon 75-150mm f/3.5, B+W 093 filter. Do note the 'rolling shutter' effect as I had the camera set to silent, electronic shutter mode because of the prior use of 'X-ray' lenses.

Speaking of heat and difficulties sleeping...
Last Thursday night, on Friday morning around 1:00 AM our area was treated to a strong storm with winds up to 80mph. With daylight we found a large section of a pecan tree now deposited on the back yard furniture and my wife's pot plants. Also a number of smaller broken branches scattered in the front and back yards and the roof of the house. Mixed were shingles from nearby houses. In the distance dozens of snapped oak and pecan trees were seen. Our friends across the street had recently had lots of work done in their back yard, building a studio and setting up gardens with landscaping. Half a huge pecan tree was now laying across it all with damage to buildings and gardens. It's the same all over this neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods--trees and power poles on buildings and in the street. We have at least two large broken branches of our pecan tree still hanging overhead, preventing us from going out in our back lawn.
To add insult to injury, Saturday brought a killer heatwave. Heat indices exceeded 109 degrees Fahrenheit--I dunno Celsius...I'm stuck in "old money" units. Just think hot. Included in these wonderful and unexpected natural gifts was an area wide electrical power outage. We depend on air conditioning around here to survive the humid summers. But we we lost it along with the lights and everything else in our all-electric home. Seems several main transmission lines were brought down by the storm. Our power came back Monday afternoon, thankfully. But we had spent three miserable nights with little sleep--Thursday due to the storm and Friday and Saturday due to the heat, humidity and dead still air. The body tries to regulate temperature with perspiration evaporating to cool it. When the humidity is this high and the air is dead still there is no evaporation. Sweat just soaks your clothes and skin, stays there feeling clammy and making you damp and smelling like the south end of a north bound goat.
But enough whining on my part. Things have improved for us although many are still without electricity here in town and the surrounding area. The power company has done a great job so far, cleaning up the downed trees and lines.
I did get out and snap one picture during this whole crisis. A few little mushrooms popped up in one of the few unbroken flower pots my wife had been so carefully tending. Life goes on, you know.

I visited the maintenance shed for our old narrow-gauge railway to see how the old locomotives fared in IR. This is 'Setskogen' steam loco that rolled off the construction line back in 1909 (!) and still is fully functional. Guess factories back then understood the concept of build and quality control :)
It was pretty dark outside and even darker inside the shed, so I had to up the ISO to 6400 to allow reasonable shutter speeds with my trustworthy Nikkor 20mm f/3.5 UD on the Z5. The lens might not be the very sharpest 20mm in existence, but is superb for IR work. No IR hot spot and a smooth rendition overall.

Birna, I really admire his spirit. I lost two uncles to Parkinsons - both had acquired brain injuries as young men (1 at war, 1 from an industrial accident) and in both of their cases it turned quite ugly at the end. I hope that your friend fares better.

Yes, indeed. Well spotted. Taken with the old 20mm f/3.5 Nikkor-UD, which despite its 50+ years age runs rings around most modern lenses for IR hooting.
