'Our' river runs wilder by the day, signalling that snow melt in the mountains have started and there is a new spring coming.

Unfortunately, a wilder river also implies more danger. A friend of the family perished on the river just a few days ago. He wasn't the first and won't be the last.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires 500 miles away casts a pall over the northeastern United States. We have been advised to stay inside with the windows shut, and outdoor events like sporting events may be canceled. Predicted to last for some days.
