We still have a few good beach days left. For me, the best of the year. It is a shame I have to work ;D
There is a natural park right next to the beach and you can tell by the bird activity. They have to put up with the humans but sharing is not so difficult this time of the year with most of the tourist already gone.
I had a blast today with the D5 (I´m planning to sell it to get a Z9 with silent shutter, a must for theater) and the 300mm vrII. What a combo!

-
How do you like the D3X as of today?
Color accuracy, sharpness and resolution are unique with the D3X. It is of course the professional Nikon DSRL with the highest MP and pixelcount of 25mp. De camera display on the back cannot handle that details of the sensor in 1000%, so after downloading the images you can see the actual results. Downsizing gives incredible detailed images. I have never seen this with another (and modern) camera.
Drawback is the low ISO sensitivity (Max 6400 ISO), perhaps comparable with the D200 or Fuji S5 Pro, but with fast lenses that 'problem' is minimal. And for high ISO there is the Nikon D3S. :) I was lucky to find a Nikon D3X and a D3S with a shuttercount around 4000 images. A great 'new' combination.

Exactly! The one whose sword arm is by the outer wall has a definite advantage. Which is why this is the first helical staircase in a castle that I have seen going this direction.
The handrails are modern niceties so unfit tourists don't take a tumble ;)

My hometown, Macclesfield in England, was once the west end of the Silk Road. At the height of the silk industry there were around seventy mills. Now there is a museum. This gentleman, one of the staff who looks after the machines, was kind enough to show my children how a Jacquard Loom works and even let them have a go at running it manually.
He was keen to emphasize that it should only be driven in one direction.
"What happens if I turn it the other way?" my son asked.
"I have to fix it later," the gent replied with a smile.

Maze for stray electrons.
First idea jumping at me was some high frequency high load design.
Based on the very organic looking design, smoothly bent conductor tracks avoiding high frequency electron emitting which could ocure at sharp corners and also very heavy (over) soldering for rock solid ground and power rails.
Some elements like the srcrew terminals and uneven conductor track lengths look strange for this use case, though.
Learning its an individual build for picking up an instrument makes sense.
It looks real nice and astonishing organic :D

Maze for stray electrons.
Wonderful! Art Deco surface mount. You couldn't do that on a wave-solder machine. :D

In expectance of flood.
We expect some flooding due to easterly winds, the Baltic Sea will empty into our sounds, and give a water level about 2 m higher than normal.
Interesting technology. The concept of water-filled flood barriers seems a little oxymoronic :o

The circuit controls a dozen of solenoids. The wide and thick soldered parts of the pattern may suggest that high currency is running through them?
Wonderful! Art Deco surface mount. You couldn't do that on a wave-solder machine. :D
Indeed, it looks like an artwork, which was the very reason for taking the image. I couldn't resist. :)

Thanks Hugh, it's just a simple clock without alarm. Not sure the Nixie tubes would survive the early morning slap to stop the alarm ;D

Thank you, Paco. Considering the hard work of the engineer, I couldn't but appreciate his effort.

I bought my first lens in 16 months when I saw a refurbished 85mm f/1.2 S last month from Nikon USA for $600 less than list price. I jumped on it and was not disappointed until all the Plena frenzy began and generated some perhaps unwarranted buyer's remorse on my part days after I had received my 85mm. Anyway, Nikon said (that is Mark Cruz from Nikon said on you tube) that the 85 could generate bokeh without cat's eyes if you shot at f/2 so that's what this photo experiment yesterday has attempted to do. Draw your own conclusions. I have posted a few photos here over the past two weeks mostly wide open with this lens and am learning what it can do, and what I can do with it. So far I have not been disappointed. Nice lens. Better or worse than the Plena? I can't say but this is very special lens too. This shot is with the Z9 on a cloudy day in a parking lot. I might add that I rarely care much for circular bokeh except on special occasions. Too often it seems like unneeded clutter. :o

Great example Tom!

Enjoy!
All I can say is, Z9 plus f1.2 = fun times, especially as daylight hours drop and you get to experiment with indoor/evening events.

Items on the kitchen counter beside the cooktop.
Done with a plague-filled and balky D3 and 24-85VR lens and massively cropped.

We just saw it on the news. Early snow this year.
-
Not unusual at all. And people are as usual surprised when the weather gods dump 20-30 cm of fresh wet snow over us :)
This is not the true winter season but the scene reminds us what we can expect in the months ahead.
-
We had the first frost of autumn this morning in south-central Oklahoma, U.S.A. (-1°C). If our winter this year is near to average the chance of snow as shown in Birna's post above isn't likely until January.
The white ash trees are bare, the mockernut hickories (Carya tomentosa) and winged elms (Ulmus alata) nearly so. The white oak family members retain full foliage that on a few trees is just beginning to turn golden brown. We turned to a non-native species to get a bit of autumn colour: the snapshot below is of a Chinese pistache (Pistacia chinensis) that is thriving at our location.

Thank you, Colin and Daniel. Currently, I don't have any long lens and I had to try to capture the overall atmosphere instead. The clouds helped a lot.

Spent the last bit of October at a family reunion in Myrtle Beach, SC, with granddaughter among the personnel, and amid all the dreadful and depressing news from everywhere, here's a little reminder that at least if you're five years old, there's still a world out there.
