Sea levels changing, in a couple of months, because of climate change ?? Would rather be because of tide. About 2 meters between low and high tide.

It was a joke :)

What strikes me as odd is the direction of the helix; it is the reverse of what one usually sees and would give the advantage to an invader rather than a defender.

Wouldn't the defender be able to hold any rail in their L hand and use sword in the R?
Less room to swing it though.....

Meanwhile I loved the re-worked lead guttering in your later shot Ian

Spring...the dams are full, the next crop of potatoes has been planted and the canola is ripening nicely.

I didn’t taught about this one. Off course, the only avenue for a PhD.   ::)

Hans, I like this colour combination and composition.  Mid spring is well and truly here for us.

Exactly! The one whose sword arm is by the outer wall has a definite advantage. Which is why this is the first helical staircase in a castle that I have seen going this direction.

The handrails are modern niceties so unfit tourists don't take a tumble  ;)

My hometown, Macclesfield in England, was once the west end of the Silk Road. At the height of the silk industry there were around seventy mills. Now there is a museum. This gentleman, one of the staff who looks after the machines, was kind enough to show my children how a Jacquard Loom works and even let them have a go at running it manually.

He was keen to emphasize that it should only be driven in one direction.

"What happens if I turn it the other way?" my son asked.

"I have to fix it later," the gent replied with a smile.
