First mosquitos of the season showing up here, in spite of the snow. This is a large species overwintering as adult, likely Culiseta alaskaensis, also going by the fitting common name "snow mosquitos". One can be tricked as they sound more like buzzing flies, not the familiar high pitched sound of mosquitos one are used to. I already got several bites, so I did not feel bad about pinching this one that was trying to get to the dog I am looking after.
