Yesterday evening, while watching the Euro Gym Championship 2021 in Basel on TV, and playing -as usual- with a camera (Nikon 1J1), this picture materialised itself on my LCD...

A Ruffed grouse (Bonasa umbellus) showed up at the house I am looking after this week.

Euphorbia characias survived last winter in a sheltered spot.

Great timing and great patience Akira.

No rain here in the UK for weeks - we're almost running out of time for "April showers"
(though since i have a leak in my roof, I count myself blessed the builders may now fix it in time!)

Thank you, Colin.  Actually, it looks more like two drops hit the handrail simultaneously.

Because of the shutter release lag, it is virtually impossible for a hobby photographer to capture "the moment".  The image was the result of pure luck!  Also, I used a 45mm lens on the full-frame, so this is an extremely heavy crop barely helped by the "Enhance" function lately added to ACR.

It has been very dry for a couple of days here, so the shower offered some moisture.  Hope you will have some rain only outside of your house!

Beautiful spring, coming every year, John and Fons.
Intense fleeting moment Akira. Great timing and eye.

Here, a guitar player by the window. Warming up for the upcoming gig.

Ruth and I just spent some days on our usual remote island. No internet, no TV, hardly even cell connectivity, so really cut off from the world. A most welcome spring break.

On the way back, I become aware of the tracks on the beach followed by an immediate association to the 'sea tanks' featured in the apocalyptic novel 'The Kraken Wakes' by the English writer John Wyndham. The book was first published in 1953 and might be not as well known to the public of today as his previous work entitled 'The Day of the Triffids'. Both are very well worth a read even today.

First mosquitos of the season showing up here, in spite of the snow. This is a large species overwintering as adult, likely Culiseta alaskaensis, also going by the fitting common name "snow mosquitos". One can be tricked as they sound more like buzzing flies, not the familiar high pitched sound of mosquitos one are used to. I already got several bites, so I did not feel bad about pinching this one that was trying to get to the dog I am looking after.

'The day of the triffids' is the first sf i read, tried a few others but never finished them. Truth is their visions are
 real now. ;)
