Temperatures continue to plummet well beyond -20C and make the outside world eerily beautiful. At least early at dawn before the scene is blanketed by the ever present frost fog (lifting up from the valley in which Norway's largest river flows). One can appreciate why we natives think 'blue' is a warm colour.

Still grounded due to the cold Siberian-influenced weather, which apparently is set to last for a long while. I'm going through various gear combinations in anticipation of more conducive conditions and the spring which surely must arrive -- sometime in the future.
Did a quick appraisal of my old UV video gear (Panasonic GH2 full-spectrum with the Petri 35mm f/3.5 lens and Baader U filter). Despite its age the camera still delivers passable results in UV. I managed to capture UV scenes using the camera hand-held. The camera itself crashed badly during the 2012 Southwestern US trip with Andrea and Erik kindly fixed it later, making some expletives regarding its internal construction which partly explained why it had collapsed under field use. I only use it for UV video as its focus correction for visible light/infinity is off, but no problem with my UV-capable lenses fortunately.
Despite the cold winter weather we see modest amounts of snow. However, UV documents insulation issues of the housings in my neighbourhood :(
The GH-2 makes for a nice "UV white" balance in-camera, a capability many other systems lack.

That scenery reminds my of the immortal words by late president Mac Mahon. Quoted from Wikipedia :
During the night of 23–24 June 1875 the Garonne region suffered heavy flooding. While visiting the inundated cities and villages he declared "que d'eau… que d'eau !… " (nothing but water…only water!…).[11] The prefect of the department responded to him: "Et encore, Monsieur le Président, vous n'en voyez que le dessus!" I had to venture outside to meet an old friend suddenly diagnosed with aggressive leukaemia just a few days ago. He knew I had a Hasselblad Xpan, a camera he so desperately wanted to use before his admission (final?) to hospital for chemotherapy. I could but indulge him so he got the gear for 10% of its usually asking price. We had a nice chat and I believe he departed with higher spirits than at the arrival.
On the way back, I deployed the PrimaLuce Z5 with the Laowa 11mm f/4.5 for some IR architecture. The 62mm filter size allowed a Hoya R72 to be used.
This über-wide lens is surprisingly sharp, if the extreme corners are less scrutinised in depth. As it is not a retrofocus design and comes in native Z-mount, it is pretty small and easily taken along for a wide perspective of the great outdoors. The price isn't entirely off the chart either.

My new snow-blower chews through a foot of snow as easily as Reg eats his breakfast. It gave me pause at first because it is after all the Power Max, but it is easy to use and fun too. During this Covid winter, one must take one's pleasures where one can.

How do you compare it with the Z6?

			-
Actual IQ is comparable in my opinion. Just different "flavor". It is in ergonomics, physical buttons,  speed and low light autofocus where the D5 is better (and battery life!). Z6 is, of course, more quiet and may be more precise with static and has an edge with eye af and the coverage of autofocus points. With manual focus lenses Z6 is way easier. Different machines for different purposes.
High iso images are very close, noise wise.

All hydroelectric facilities here are running flat out to produce energy, even the smaller run-of-river installations in my neighbourhood open up for maximum through-flow of water. A bit surprising is that they do this to export energy to Continental Europe through the massive newly built transfer cables. One would surmise the Norwegians desperately needed the energy to make our housings inhabitable in the bitter cold, but that is not the master plan of the electricity boards. They rather sell at high daytime prices abroad, then use low rates during night to import cheap night-time surplus production to pump water into their reservoirs, then resell the "new energy" next day. Oh well. The thinking is beyond my kern.
Anyway, our local river has broken its ice cover and one is sternly advised to refrain from falling into the icy cold, swift-flowing water. At -10 to -20C ambient, you would not last long.

I suspect you already know this, but for those who are interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine,  it is all around us right now (of the 5 elements referred to in TCM, Winter is the period that corresponds to Water energy)

You people make feel the cold! Here the situation is very different. Even in Granada´s altitude today we had a very warm and sunny day, perfect for a walkaround with the Z6 and the 200mm f4 ai. This image is pretty much sooc with landscape camera mode. Wonderful late evening colors.

We have this quaint heritage railway > 120 years old running through my small local town. It's narrow gauge rails and the train sets are definitively small, so no wonder the name is "Tertitten" (loosely translates as 'midget train'). Steam locomotives of course.
This is the crossing sign where the tracks run in front of the local fire station. Nikon Df with the 85mm f/1.4 Nikkor AIS, late afternoon and very low sun elevation.

The 200mm f4 Ai is a very lightweight tele to use on the Z6
Image wise it seem ok especially taken the age into account.
Sorry if gets the price to rise even more

The Ai and Ai-S are also very small. Personally I got very nice images from the even older 200mm f4 Nikkor-Q.C. The only thing I really disliked about that lens was the minimum focus distance of 2 meters. The 80-200 f4 took almost the same amount of space, marginally more weight (about 200 grams more) but had a minimum focus distance of 1,2 meters.

Urban Rhythm. For scenes like this I much prefer the 4:3 format over others.
Olympus E-M10II + Olympus 12-40mm f2.8
For scenes like this I much prefer the higher 4:3 format. The Olympus is my preferred camera on my bicycle trips around town.
Using Capture One for RAW conversion the image quality is remarkable good for a smallish sensor.

I just realize that your crocus image was shot with E900 as well.  Amazing image quality and beautiful color even for today's standard.  For whatever reason, this particular model was not released in Japan.
Thanks Akira.
That is very strange it was not released in Japan. What could be the reason ?
Especially that this Fuji (E900) alone has the ability to deliver a Tiff of 4864-3684 pixels large (with the Super CCD HR sensor).  Hyper Utility 3 can also read and translate the raws.
This raw is a larger output than the Fuji S5 and earlier models.  The specialty of the sensor, the highlight recovery,  works als great with the E900 RAF's.
See the original brochure at that time (2006) https://www.fujifilm.ca/shared/bin/E900_Brochure.pdf (https://www.fujifilm.ca/shared/bin/E900_Brochure.pdf)  Looking at the ebay selling locations one can conclude that especially in the UK this Fuji was an enormous success.

John, thank you for the details of the camera.  Like any manufacturers, Fujifilm offers pdf manuals for the old models to download, but I couldn't find one in Japanese for this particular model.
I can only speculate, but they could have decided that the model of this type and spec was not going to be popular among Japanese customers.  If the spec were that high, Japanese customers would have preferred a DSLR style model.  Or, that was simply for the marketing reason.  Remember, Nikon didn't sell Series E 28/2.8, 135/2.8 and a zoom (I forgot which one was that) in Japan.  There should be other examples.

Thanks for the reply, Akira.  Sounds logical.   The Bridge camera Fuji S9600 shares  the same sensor as the E900.  Is that one more popular in Japan?

First signs of spring and snow thaw. Not sure for how long we can be in this "blessed" state of affairs, though. Weather has let us down so many times before this winter.
I availed myself of some spring light to do UV video with the PrimaLuce Z5 and the Coastal 60mm f/4 APO, through the usual Baader U filter. Colour balancing UV video footage from this camera is a challenge so far exceeding my skills I'm afraid, but I try to improve the situation. Anyway, here is a video grab frame. Clearly, I'm not a videographer either but capturing moving scenes in UV is a funny experience nonetheless.

John, Fuji sold generations of bridge cameras here in Japan.  Apparently, S9600 was sold as S9100 in the US and Japan:

The cases of manufactures naming the same model differently are not rare, which makes things confusing.

Thanks for the Link.  Yes I know.  And especially Fuji has a very un logical method in their FinePix series. There is no chronological overview.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujifilm_FinePix (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujifilm_FinePix)  all those series, current and discontinued.  Never saw such a chaos  :)

The city counsel of Amersfoort has commissioned 34 artists to create artworks to be displayed around the city.
It's part of a walk-around-town project "Amersfoort on the Move" to stimulate people to be more active during COVID lockdown.
One of the art pieces is this - already controversial - corona virus artwork by local artist Anders Wolhar (pseunodym, he's obviously inspired by Warhol).

Nice picture.
Not a bad camera to have with you. I like your composition, one characteristic the iPhone doesn’t really affect. I have the same phone and the thing I like best about it is it doesn’t drop calls. Perhaps a better antenna, more robust engine? Living in the woods as I do, that trumps the sexy camera, which I happen to like a lot.
