All hydroelectric facilities here are running flat out to produce energy, even the smaller run-of-river installations in my neighbourhood open up for maximum through-flow of water. A bit surprising is that they do this to export energy to Continental Europe through the massive newly built transfer cables. One would surmise the Norwegians desperately needed the energy to make our housings inhabitable in the bitter cold, but that is not the master plan of the electricity boards. They rather sell at high daytime prices abroad, then use low rates during night to import cheap night-time surplus production to pump water into their reservoirs, then resell the "new energy" next day. Oh well. The thinking is beyond my kern.
Anyway, our local river has broken its ice cover and one is sternly advised to refrain from falling into the icy cold, swift-flowing water. At -10 to -20C ambient, you would not last long.
