Lovely and delicate, Akira.
And a beautiful Yellow, by the way.

Unusually hot for the time of the year -- January 2020 was the warmest since temperature measurements commenced in my country. Snow is long gone, but spring flowers hesitate to appear. Perhaps they sense the fallacy of an early spring? Even though ambient temperatures now have climbed to +8C.
A preamble to say I look forward to have flowers to work with once again -- meanwhile, I enjoy Akira's contribution.

Jack, it is surprising that your plums have bloomed in such a constant intervals. As for the white Japanese plums, I always love them in the earliest stage of the bloom. Hence the closeups, either with a long lens or by getting closer, works nicely.

My contribution of today (or rather, late last light) is a close-up (m=0.52) of one of my cultures of Greater Duckweed Spirodela polyrhiza. Stored for the winter in a dark, cool room, the colony disintegrated in a myriad of winter buds (turions), some of which do develop into budding new plants ahead of time. Probably the ambient temperature is a trifle on the high side (+5C) for the population to enter true hibernation state. Whatever the underlying cause, the colony makes a nice motif for UV-induced fluorescence (UVIVF). The buffing plants have chlorophyll and fluoresces in red, whilst the turions are rich in starch and appear dark. There are some seeds of Meadow-Sweet Filipendula ulmaria floating around as well, plus one or two fronds of Least Duckweed Lemna minuta that managed to scrape through so far.

The beach is just south of San Francisco's Ocean Beach at a place called Fort Funston.
It is open for dogs off-leash and is also quite a favorite for hang-gliding and parasailing.
On the bluff above was the fort which is slowly eroding into the sea. Low tide is the best time to visit as the beach becomes very wide and flat.
My dog does not like water, but she loves to run and chase birds in the sea where there are just a few centimeters of water.
During the high tides that come this time of year, sections of the beach are impassable.
During high tide it can be dangerous to walk at the base of the cliffs. Two years ago a woman was buried when the cliff above her collapsed and buried her.
It took months to find the body.
The top of the cliff is no safer. A year ago a man went over the cliff to retrieve his dog. Being equipped with two legs rather than four, he found himself less stable than expected and gravity took him on a swift final ride.
But mostly the place is filled with happy dog walkers, fishermen, and families. Yesterday there were hundreds of people attending a Corgi meetup. Watching those dogs with short little legs making the climb back up the bluffs was comical.

Our government is validating the temporary air route to accommodate the potentially increasing traffic for the Olympics. A jet plane seen in this size in Shibuya, Tokyo is insane. At 100%, you will see the landing gears.

The AF worked nicely to focus at the jet, and the exif says that the distance was 1000m! I'm not sure if the data is reliable, but it is surprising enough to know that a 45/2.8 lens can (or pretends to) detect such a long distance!

Frank,
Good friend died suddenly at his home. Quite young and unexpected. At my age the event not that rare but at his age >:( . The wonders of social media. In the past it would have been an hour or so before someone called me. Now ten minutes, and my phone beeps , not sure I like it??? It was on the national news by the time I got home....

Thanks John
I couldn't get in (this was in someone's garden) but yes, a circular group of gracefull & impressive trees (unknown breed). I guess the stonework came some time afterwards.
These were in the hamlet of Hexworthy on Dartmoor. You enter it via one of the most narrow stone road bridges I've ever seen (I'm guessing there are no Amazon deliveries there)
I would have given a lot to be able to sit within the circle of trees for an hour or so, on a warmer and drier day.

Sitting in my local café, enjoying the morning newspaper, a healthy sized Cappucino, and, of course, a perfect mint sample of the APO-Lanthar 85mm f/3.5 for Nikkor-S(RF) mount. Price of the lens was highly acceptable and in the confusion about Brexit, Customs forgot the VAT. Not that I would protest :)
The lens, one of a small lot of 600 units ever made, will be living together with my petite Nikon Z50. I built a complete lens range for it using old rangefinder Nikkors and the quite modern (ca 2004) Voigtländer lenses in RF mount.
Perfect day. Despite howling gusts of wind making a mess of my hair do. Who cares when being indoors?

This image appears to be a close-up snapshot of my work table. As usual this time of the year it is overflowing with parts. However, upon closer examination, the distribution of depth of field is a bit strange, to say the least. Might I add this is taken with an Olympus OM 28mm f/3.5 lens, rebuilt for use on my Nikons in a specialised fashion. The shooting aperture was f/5.6.
I'm still trying to come to grips with this, to me, novel technique and testing it with the Z cameras is a big advantage. Hopefully I master the approach enough to be able to put it to good use when the spring flowering commences.

-
Wow, Birna, is the lens modified to be tiltable?
No tilt.
-
No tilt.
Then, specially re-built for the focus stacking with the movable camera and the fixed lens elements?
-
That's more like it, yes. The OM 28 was selected because its image quality holds up pretty well in the near range, despite a lack of CRC. However, it does have significant barrel distortion which can be a royal pain for the stacking software. There are also some colour aberrations most of which disappear in Photo Ninja. Image contrast overall is on the moderate-low side, but I prefer to rectify that in the final processing step. In this example, colours are a little off as the older Photo Ninja running on my Linux box hadn't an updated profile for the Z6. I have to make one later if further experiments are attempted. Or install a new version if there are any licenses left over.
In all, 121 frames were stacked. So the approach mainly is suited for stationary scenes.

Birna, thank you for the disclosure. That is not far from what I imagined, maybe except for the filter holder. So, the Zuiko 28/3.5 can be used for UV.
-
Rear filtration is a fringe benefit of the Z system, made possible by the very short register distance (16mm). This is useful in particular for UV where the filter options are thin on the ground and tend to be very expensive for larger sizes, if they even exist (often, not at all). Besides, the very efficient Baader U filter is dichroic and that spells problems with a wide-angle lens. In such case, for an optical design with a small exit pupil like the OM 28, rear filtration is much better.
The filter box can be replaced with an ordinary FTZ adapter if "normal" visible light photography is intended. Then, as the OM 28 lens is "chipped", all lens information can be seen and recorded in EXIF. The OM 28 does UV, but only the upper UV(A) band. Suffices for floral studies and landscapes at least.

I remember the discussion on that filter system between you and Klaus quite well. Here in Japan, Koeisha makes a nice system for the similar usage:
http://www.koheisha.net/sony/Bayonet/Bayonet_mount01.html
Exchanging filters are not as easy or quick as your system, but it seems to be well designed. The unit can accept either an M48 or an M52 filter.

The old 16mm f/3.5 fisheye-Nikkor has built-in color filters as you could not place filters in front of it. These days, filters for black and white are nearly obsolete as we can customize color filtration in post production (filtering at capture is still effective if faced with high dynamic range). The R60 gives a nice red tone to nearly monochromatic scenes.
-
Lovely, like an impressionistic painting.
Thanks, John! Just goes to show what a smartphone can do. You just need to spot the image.
Jack, I have used that R60 in abundance. Not only did i use it in the 16/3.5 but i ended up buying the R60 gel to put on my 8mm fish-eye. Although, I mostly used it on for infrared images.
I still remember Erik's baobab tree from South Africa.
you have used it nicely :)

As usual.. a wonderful thread to see. Such a variety of subjects and styles!

oh, gosh, carnial brings even me to my limits. I fasted on photography, done writing and business lately ... but then I pick her up where I left her and she lifts me up to new heights ... a bucket of shots and even I am impressed ... and I need a lot of time to decide what to show, too many are great ...

Yesterday I had an appointment at a Science Centre in Oslo and availed myself of the opportunity to have a look around the premises. I stumbled over this scene at a research lab and immediately had a "Big Bang theory" deja vu.

Nice day for the beach, Fons!
Birna: it is really intriguing to see people’s desks. In this case especially the electric wires from above.
Frank: wonderful portraits!
My photo for the day, also in the museum and shot with the iphone. It is probably me but at this angle the man in the painting seems to look through the wall and to the window on the left.

yes. you changed the rules a while ago...

A maximum of 1 picture per day. A maximum of 28-31 per month (which follows from the first). Should be easy enough to understand.
We have had that schedule for years now.

Frank, thank you for testing the boundaries - i was going to try this last week, so at least I know the potential outcome.
Sounds like the carnival fired your enthusiasm. I'm impressed as it's been quite cold in the last few days.

My friend's Huawei phone which I deployed for our selfies. I managed to mail me the picture, and thus save it, before she saw it and deleted it as being "ugly". She being Chinese meant the capture went through some kind of "beautification" á la Beautycam, which in this instance added to the perceived "glamour" :)

Working mostly with the z6 and 24-70 2.8 vr and D500 with 70-200 2.8 Fl. The idea of to give a chance tomorrow the a couple of primes, probably 58 1.4 and 105 1.4 and try to catch that magic too.

Calender says today is last day of Winter. As we hardly have seen winter signs this year, apart from some recent moderately cold days -10 to -12C, even a slight dusting of snow is welcome. Tomorrow it's officially Spring. Believe it or not. I'd rather not.

Different, depending on your needs. Image quality is better with the Z7.
Compared with the D850 the Z7 won on all accounts, so I sold the D850.
