low tide means dogs time? is it yours in the front?
colours are great in this pictures
The beach is just south of San Francisco's Ocean Beach at a place called Fort Funston.
It is open for dogs off-leash and is also quite a favorite for hang-gliding and parasailing.
On the bluff above was the fort which is slowly eroding into the sea. Low tide is the best time to visit as the beach becomes very wide and flat.
My dog does not like water, but she loves to run and chase birds in the sea where there are just a few centimeters of water.
During the high tides that come this time of year, sections of the beach are impassable.
During high tide it can be dangerous to walk at the base of the cliffs. Two years ago a woman was buried when the cliff above her collapsed and buried her.
It took months to find the body.
The top of the cliff is no safer. A year ago a man went over the cliff to retrieve his dog. Being equipped with two legs rather than four, he found himself less stable than expected and gravity took him on a swift final ride.
But mostly the place is filled with happy dog walkers, fishermen, and families. Yesterday there were hundreds of people attending a Corgi meetup. Watching those dogs with short little legs making the climb back up the bluffs was comical.
