The Lenses, optics behave similar to when used for photographic work - I would say that this is sort of the opposite of using Projection lenses for Photography
The LED element is clearly depicted/projected when you focus the lens, crisp and sharp.
The lens lets more light out the faster it is, so yes if you need high beam so to say you open up, if you want diffused and dampened you stop down.
Currently I have no super fast lenses in mount but could be great fun to try
Sure zooms work as expected and yes for a focused light for a bird hide out studio as well - For this application an old Visoflex lens with mirror box on a tripod, would be very handy, you could focus the lens via the reflex mirror, then shift it open and fire up the LED though the lens
