Feb. 6.  Japanese plums have started to bloom here and there.  Ai Nikkor 200/4.0 on Sigma fp.

They are a little bit late here this year. I have many years of photos of Japanese red-leaf plum blossoms and always on Feb 4th and 5th. I will go out today and see if I can find them.

I like how longer lenses give them attention.

I like this surreal image even if it contradicts the feelings I would share with you.

Jack, it is surprising that your plums have bloomed in such a constant intervals.  As for the white Japanese plums, I always love them in the earliest stage of the bloom.  Hence the closeups, either with a long lens or by getting closer, works nicely.

I like the repetition. I would have preferred some more sharpness on the handle.

"Moon through the trees" -- nice, John.

Erik would have loved the model train workplace ...

My contribution of today (or rather, late last light) is a close-up (m=0.52) of one of my cultures of Greater Duckweed Spirodela polyrhiza. Stored for the winter in a dark, cool room, the colony disintegrated in a myriad of winter buds (turions), some of which do develop into budding new plants ahead of time. Probably the ambient temperature is a trifle on the high side (+5C) for the population to enter true hibernation state. Whatever the underlying cause, the colony makes a nice motif for UV-induced fluorescence (UVIVF). The buffing plants have chlorophyll and fluoresces in red, whilst the turions are rich in starch and appear dark. There are some seeds of Meadow-Sweet Filipendula ulmaria floating around as well, plus one or two fronds of Least Duckweed Lemna minuta that managed to scrape through so far.

Nikon Z7, AFD Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8, Nichia UV LED.
