We romanticize classic cars - but they were really not always that great to handle.
But Boy I wish I had some to use for my shoots

Nice one Elsa and indeed we romanticize classic cars as they have more character, not only in the handling but also in the looks.

Elsa, Well, well, well !  An old friend.

My dad in NZ had an almost identical car to the one in your image.  It was a blue 1955 Dodge Kingsway with a 2 speed powerflyte auto and a small V8.  You are right about the handling  -  it steered more like a boat than a car.  It is still in the family, but much the worse for wear.  Plymouth, De Soto, and Chrysler sold variations of this car in NZ  - mainly to farmers who had to have solid cars to handle the rough outback gravel roads prevalent over there at that time.  Beige, blue, black, and green were common colours for this model.  Chevrolets and Ford Customlines were also very popular with NZers back then

Thank you for sharing your image - it certainly brings back memories for me.

not always easy to get the cars as they are usually at some expo or something - lots of clutter and people around

The Volvo and that DS are true Classics! And what a fantastic colour combination for the DS! Wow ;) Nicely framed and captured although a bit on the dark side for the DS,,,

Well. You had to have a good garage mechanic and spare parts supplier.

But road handling. They were good at it.
Then again, it depends which period you are referring.
