Yes, you are right, it does fit the image but I cannot remember whether I did this in post or as shot.
I remember, I was shooting with the Leica R lens 90 APO on a Nikon Body...... some Leica lenses do produce magic as you know yourself.

I just luv the 300SL......what a beautiful car.

This car is registered as a 1969 Daimler 2.5V8 but has several Jaguar MK II parts I think....
There has always been the old Jaguar and Daimler similarity. Thank you for posting.
-
Indeed Jaguar and Daimler exchange(d) a lot of parts, this particular vehicle seems to be a Daimler with a hood and tailgate from Jaguar.
-
1967 Citroën DS21
The Citroen had it's heydays and I was always fascinated as to how the car body could move vertically.

I have no idea what this is. Maybe it will become a classic one day........ ;D

Almass, this car would suit you perfectly. I already see you driving about with your lovely models giggling in the back seat with glasses of champagne in their hands 8)
Even if you don't know the model of this one, I think you cannot dispute it's a classic ;)

This is the famous Stutz. It is the Studebaker 1960 Hawk.

Thank you, Almass.
It's a professional transporter. Shot just after the Techno-Classica fair in Essen, Germany.
Lots of loading and unloading going on.
The size of road going trucks is quite limited in Europe, there fore they use stacking mechanisms to fit more cars.
Looks tight, works obviously well.

We romanticize classic cars - but they were really not always that great to handle.

Nice one Elsa and indeed we romanticize classic cars as they have more character, not only in the handling but also in the looks.

Elsa, Well, well, well ! An old friend.
My dad in NZ had an almost identical car to the one in your image. It was a blue 1955 Dodge Kingsway with a 2 speed powerflyte auto and a small V8. You are right about the handling - it steered more like a boat than a car. It is still in the family, but much the worse for wear. Plymouth, De Soto, and Chrysler sold variations of this car in NZ - mainly to farmers who had to have solid cars to handle the rough outback gravel roads prevalent over there at that time. Beige, blue, black, and green were common colours for this model. Chevrolets and Ford Customlines were also very popular with NZers back then
Thank you for sharing your image - it certainly brings back memories for me.
We romanticize classic cars - but they were really not always that great to handle.
But Boy I wish I had some to use for my shoots
-
not always easy to get the cars as they are usually at some expo or something - lots of clutter and people around
great images in this thread

The Volvo and that DS are true Classics! And what a fantastic colour combination for the DS! Wow ;) Nicely framed and captured although a bit on the dark side for the DS,,,

Thanks Erik !
The photo's are perhaps a bit dark because of the vignetting I deliberately added.

Oh yes. The DB4 was a great car.
Shame that Aston Martin had a rather bad run before the takeover.

Well. You had to have a good garage mechanic and spare parts supplier.
But road handling. They were good at it.
Then again, it depends which period you are referring.

No fuss over the Nikon body used.
In fact, we shall even allow Sony, Fuji or any other just like we do within our lovely community :)
Now, may I present to you the following vehicle.
I envisage Harald being the proud owner of this one.
Why Harald? Since Harald is a high-fidelity expert, please note the amplifier for the horn ;D
This way, Harald can notify his wife that he is arriving from work from a fair distance. By doing so, he would allow her to set up the dinner table in time :)

BMW 8**? Made from 89-99, the color does not look contemporary, more like 'Electric Orange' which was introduced with some high powered Ford Focus models (second series ST) at about 2005.
I think 30 years are the common age for going 'classic' but that may vary.
Great color, nice fishy perspective!

Fons, "razorcontrasty" and colourful. My fav is no 2.
Luckily it haven´t been Ford cars "availabe in any colour as long as it is black"
The 2nd one at least has a German Plate.
These red plates, you can get for historic vehicles to drive them to shows, rallies,
do technical checks, etc. You insure the strongest one and that includes all others.

Fons, 1st one in this post (#94) is great! In this way, the (very) contrasty (HDR?) processing works very well. On top of that, the reflection of the modern car in the classic car is the cherry on the cake.
-
An old car in my neighbourhood. It has been sitting there slowly rusting away at least for 30 years. I occasionally snap a picture of it, just for amusement. This is with the Fuji S5Pro and 35-135/3.5-4.5 Zoom-Nikkor AIS, by the way.
No idea of the make, but have nicknamed it the "Havana" car for my files.

The 'Havana car' is a 1949-51 Ford product. The first all-new, "modern" Ford from the post WW2 period.

You mean postprocessing, i suppose,
i do basic conversion in either Photoninja or Photoshop,
adjustments in the next step were adjust shadows and highlights
and finally with niks color efex, to enhance tonal contrasts
its over the top but considering the topic it makes for fun.
thank you

Not great pictures, but a very unusual one off car.

That's a '49 Ford. My dad had one.

Indeed, a very handsome car design!
My only complaint is one found on other cars as well, the leather strap hold down. That's just a personal dislike that looks out of place and to me like a last minute fix to cover the fact that they forgot to include a latch in the design. OTOH, I know folks that love the looks of the strap. You just can't please everyone. ;D

The strap breaks up the beautiful lines of the design, a sin in my view. ;)

Good document of the 3rd generation Buick Riviera. Few survive anywhere in such good condition.
The model marks the years 1971 to 1973, a period where the styling of American cars...particularly GM cars... underwent a radical shift from pleasing, speed-flavored beauty to a kind of senile, low-class post-modernism.

Search on '1952 Bentley', you will see an abundance of them.
Very similar to the 1952 Alvis which my father had. The bodies were made by various outside coach builders in those days so although they followed a general style, there were many variations, especially with the soft tops.

I wasn't aware of that. I had always thought that Bentley/Rolls Royce were all produced in house, with them not wanting anyone else mucking about with their cars. Live and learn! ;)
-
Most of the 'better' cars when chassis were the norm, were produced as a rolling chassis, sometimes with a standard bulkhead and radiator cowling, the body builder did the rest. Sometimes wealthy customers would have a body produced to their own specifications. There were Park Ward, Mulliner, Charlesworth, Tickford and Abbot, off the top of my head and a host more which don't spring to mind right now!
Eventually when chassis became unfashionable and structural bodies replaced them, it became impractical to farm the bodywork out because it had become the basis of the vehicle. The larger constructors absorbed some of the skilled workforce from the hitherto suppliers and took the process in-house.
As a matter of interest Donald Campbell's Bentley which is Bluebird blue, is in a museum not far from here, I thought I had photographs of the front of it but alas only the front bumper, which is an earlier style, late 40's I would guess. I am pretty sure it's a very similar front to the picture above.
OK, I just googled 'donald campbell's bentley images' and the one in the museum is about 1936 style, but still a pretty car, also it picked up on his Land Rover, also in Bluebird blue...

No need for apologies! While I can recognise many classic cars, I can't identify the makes of current cars for love nor money... But then they don't hold any interest for me, they are just bean tins on wheels waiting to be bean tins again.

Hi Peter, this image was shot in 2012 at a very special Silver Arrows exhibition/reunion in the Louwman Museum Den Haag. I visited the museum especially for this exhibition and spent several hours looking for the right angles while patiently waiting to have an unobstructed view to shoot these beautiful cars. It would be great if you can provide a crop of the car mascot or wheel emblem for positive identification (even if blurred)
My guess is based on the car mascot and wheel emblem and the Tokyo location on the proviso that it was an export purchased auto
It has many similarities to the 1934 Cadillac Fleetwood Series 452-D including the running chrome detail on the side and bonnet of the car and of course the shape of the body.

Thank you, Ethan, for chiming in. Here's the crop of the mascot. The overall shape looks similar to the one you posted above but a lot simpler.

It looks like a LaSalle 1937 mascot but the body does not match!
Can you tell if it is a right hand auto? In which case the spare wheel is on the right!
I think we should target the air intakes.

Yes, apparently, the driver is sitting on the side closer to the photographer (which means the right side).
The crop includes the driver and the air intakes. Judging from the direction of their grills, they might be ventilators to let the hot air of the engine room out.
Nice image, Akira and great follow-up discussion on the mysterious bonnet ornament.

Akira, I take your comment as a big compliment but I´m not sure I agree.
We all go out and make pictures of whatever calls our attention. Details catch mine, other, yours. In this community of talented people so far away from each other is evident the differences in not only what is deemed interesting, but the approach at catching it and the process and presentation. By "keen eye" I understand "personal eye". Either way, I´m happy you enjoy it and I thank you deeply.
I wish for a future conversation in person about keen eyes, details, photography and everything else.

It is a Ford Custom Line single spinner. They were very popular with Aussie and Kiwi farmers in the early 1950s due to their solid chassis and robust drive trains that suited them to the poor roads back then. Google "Ford single spinner Australia" for plenty of images. And yes, there are still many being driven on the streets of Havana - so a great choice of nickname.
