this is an excellent topic with some excellent images JA. Sorry Mongo has nothing in his cupboard to contribute to this thread but acknowledges and is enjoying the fine work by the posting members.

I fully agree Mongo, really enjoying all the contributions in this topic and already got plenty of inspiration to try out on my next trips.

Might introduce a few more "Master of Light" topics to give more light oriented images a podium, there's so much to discover and learn about light which makes this hobby so fascinating

Here's a few more from me, hope you guys like them.

The first one is a special image btw for personal reasons, on the old NG forum somebody called the original version "pedestrian" while back then I thought it was the best I could do. I got insulted and very very angry by the comment but a few days later had to admit he was right. Locked myself up for a weekend and learned everything there was to know about processing NEF's in CNX2 with the mindset "I'll show the MoFo what I can do". When I think back about the event its too funny but it gave a huge boost to my processing capabilities and laid the foundation of what I now know about processing RAW images. I forgot who he was but I'm eternally grateful for being so blunt about my work

Agreed, it's easy to settle into a tried & tested groove.
Having the status quo shaken up can be a blessing sometimes. I love the way you describe how this process spurred you on and I love your work too!

I do think a sincere critique is positive. It takes courage to do a negative one, even if with good constructive intentions, even more to really accept it.

I fully agree, went for a canoeing trip in Finland in 2004 and kind of fell in love with Scandinavia.

Back then I had no idea what light was other than that I needed some to photograph, quickly looked at the images taken with the Minolta A2 during that trip but there's sadly not one I liked based on the current knowledge of photography (my goodness I sucked back then).
