Hi Francis, those look great - any chance you could deliver to the UK?!

Frank, that's an interesting observation.
Guess you'd say that since the majority of people are R Handed, choose #1 (or have one of each?)

More subtle is the following: Try to adjoin with the perfect griping position, m,ake the person feel she or he can just grab (and wants to grab). It is all about walking round the subject and finding the right height and distance.

That's a clever suggestion ! I will try it in the future.

As for the lighting, I have noticed that is uneven. I may need some white screan to improve lighting.

About the messy BG, I didn't want to crop the image, but I should probably have done it. ???

Cheers, Francis.

ColinM. I shoot food for a living since 2006, but only very rarely post customer files here. And if, rejects.

About right/left ... yes. If I do not positively know my customer base is biassed to the left handed side. You are right.

I often find myself rearranging (and sometimes even cleaning) customer places to make them more appealing on a photo....

Light is most important, but arrangement aka "styling" is very important too..

No I think I've worked out Francis' layout.

I'm quite happy to hold my wine glass in my right hand, so using the left for the Fars Breton wouldn't be a problem.
Prunes & rum you say....?

Hi Francis, those look great - any chance you could deliver to the UK?!

Thanks !

Colin, I am about 80 miles away...(near Winchester), so the delivery would cost you loads ! ;D. But I'd be more than happy to give the recipe on request, which would a cheaper way ! :)

Very quick & dirty....

are you left handed?
For a right handed person #1 looks much more inviting, for a left handed person #2 & I did some tonality plus cropping to make it more appealing in my eyes.
What do you think?

Yes, I am left handed. Amazing you could tell !

Your version is obviously cleaner now. :D

So you just flapped the image ?

These were taken for a restaurant some time ago.
I hope I will get the chance to use my recently aquired 85mm PC-E lens for food photos some day.

Great quality photography & lighting Bjorn. And I'd happily order these in a restaurant.
The various plates & serving dishes really add to the presentation too.

For me, the placement of the spring onions on the foremost claw in the last image makes me smile (in my mind it's changed it into a sea creature with a pair of green goggles on its head!). I think I must have been working too hard today.....

Bon apetite :-)

Frank, I think that Andy was using a D8H for these shots ;)
