Akira: A little correction, Lego is Danish, not Swedish. Their headquarter is around 1 hour drive from where I live ;)

No worries at all Akira, I just thought you'd want to know. It's not like I would fare better if I had to comment on something @ Japan, quite the opposite I'm afraid.

Back from France where my internet connection was rather erratic, hence my silence...So I have changed the operator, hopefully the situation will improve next time I am going there.

I would like to congratulate all contributors of this thread : high quality pictures and very yummy subjects !

Please, keep in mind that is a thread of photographic interest (a section of sudio photography) so, don't hesitate to share technical information.  ;)

Very colorful shots, Frank, with details like the pattern on beetroot slices !

I noticed you use close up framing which makes the watcher ''entering the dish'' and I think is a good way. I like it.

I recently made two ''fars bretons'' (breton= from Brittany) : one with prunes an rum, another with raspberries and vanilla extract...

Perfect with a ''Vendanges tardives '' (late harvest) which was a nectar ! :P

Still with the Df+Zeiss 35mm f/2 ZF2, and SB900.

Francis: In the first of two I like the idea of cutting one piece of each and creating a form parallel.

If I might say so, the light distribution is uneven and the BG is distracting, a second I prepare a little edit for you.

More subtle is the following: Try to adjoin with the perfect griping position, m,ake the person feel she or he can just grab (and wants to grab). It is all about walking round the subject and finding the right height and distance.

The old shots I showed above are not about design, they are only about lighting. Lighting should make the structures pop out to give the viewer "a mouth feeling" of the subject. Let them feel the texture...

Very quick & dirty....

are you left handed?

For a right handed person #1 looks much more inviting, for a left handed person #2 & I did some tonality plus cropping to make it more appealing in my eyes.
