It's an IT joke: if one thinks something will develop it's own dynamics and rush off without ones own ongoing involvement (like in a movie theatre -> popcorn time) one starts preparing for that situation.
Please don't mind - I considered the 3rd person stuff easily triggering such a thing but I have had my popcorn today.
