Noise reduction - DXO vs. Adobe

I confirm. Having tested DxO Deep Prime and compared it to my Lr&Ps environment, the former performs better. Nevertheless, DxO is nowhere compared to Adobe in a professional work environment. So it’s a NoGo.

PS: I used to be a DxO subscriber.

NB: DxO takes also ages before providing updates for new bodies / lenses. The latter also as a result that each pair lens/body has to be tested by DxO.

I used to be as well, but the very limitation was one of the reasons for my departure.  My current SIGMA fp uses DNG for the native RAW format, but the DXO software doesn't support SIGMA cameras!

They did change their mind!  DxO Photolab 5 (Elite Version) supports Fuji X-Trans sensors very nicely!

Apparently, the standard version does not.

Just did a quick test and it is not as good as PR in my opinion. Very blotchy OOF areas.

I did a comparison with Topaz Denoise which I used previously (right) and DxO Pure Raw (left). Noise attenuation and color restoration of DxO is clearly better:

Daniel, to me, the Topaz image looks crispier and the detail is more preserved (especially the salt-and-pepper beard).  DXO image does look cleaner but the detail seems to be more smeared.

Thanks for your assessment Akira. I see what you see and I guess it now comes down to personal preference. I quite like the ability of DxO to preserve color. When I zoom out the DxO photos look more pleasing to my eye. But I plan to only use it when things have been tricky.

Daniel, yes, of course, the final verdict will depend on the personal taste and also usage.  If the sample image is just a small part of the entire frame, the difference would be negligible and the overall look of the frame should be much more important.

DXO just released V2.0 of Pure RAW which now supports also Fuji XTRANS RAW. This is very good news as I use my X100V a lot. The optimisation is a neatly integrated plugin in Lr or runs the standalone app. The code is optimised for Apple M1 silicon. My first impressions are very positive.

This is a reconverted X100V RAW. I like the denoising and color retention in night shots.
