Noise reduction - DXO vs. Adobe
« on: December 03, 2021, 19:23:48 »
I am hugely impressed with DXO's technology.
Tried my best to de-noise the same image with ACR but got nowhere close.
Our Golden modelling for this test.
Z6 @ ISO 32000.

Have you tried the Topaz denoiser? I hear good things about it.

I tried Topaz but no cigar there either.
After trying Deep Prime free for some time I was impressed enough to purchase Pure Raw (the raw converter with Deep Prime NR.

Thanks for the hint on Pure RAW - interesting concept - I gave it a whizz bang whallop - this is very noisy D850 file - pity it doesn't support my X100V:

Looks really impressive.  Thank you for sharing, Sten.

Unfortunately, DXO traditionally ignores non-Bayer sensors completely.

Akira, their Photo Lab 5 Elite does XTRANS with the same deep prime algorithms (so far beta only).
I hope Pure RAW will get an update to support XTRANS. They can do it.

Golunvolo, have a look at the label on the cap: Adobe Camera RAW apart from lots of noise also no color, but the DXO version is quite nice

The infamous "UV striping" of the Z6 proved too deep for DXO Deep Prime :(

Really?  They must have changed their mind!  When I was using Photpo Lab and  referred to DXO Marks website several years ago, there was no hint for them interested in X-Trans sensor.  Capture One handled my X-Trans sensor images marvelously.

I confirm. Having tested DxO Deep Prime and compared it to my Lr&Ps environment, the former performs better. Nevertheless, DxO is nowhere compared to Adobe in a professional work environment. So it’s a NoGo.

PS: I used to be a DxO subscriber.

NB: DxO takes also ages before providing updates for new bodies / lenses. The latter also as a result that each pair lens/body has to be tested by DxO.

I agree with the photo editing capabilities in general but for me Pure Raw is the ticket when it comes to NR.

They did change their mind!  DxO Photolab 5 (Elite Version) supports Fuji X-Trans sensors very nicely!

Apparently, the standard version does not.

I keep NR correction to the lowest possible level; this together by using a D6 and never exceeding ISO 25’600. If there is still some noise, so be it.  ;)
