Interestingly, the snowflakes on the far right and the far left looks sharper.  I wonder if it is due to the field curvature.

Likely the residual aberrations of coma etc. act to give the blur circles a mere defined outline, thus making an illusion of increased "sharpness".

Thank you, John, for taking time to investigate and share the results.  These would prove how the residual aberrations make the images characteristic and interesting.

and, possibly, the effect of vignetting (similar to stopping down, however anisotropic) on the reduction of spherical aberration ?
