Or about half the field of view of the ubiquitous 50mm "standard" lens of the era?
Most "standard" lenses for 35mm format are (or were) actually 51.6mm, so doubling will give 103mm, which is very close to 105mm ...

A great sequence here Andrew - I like the first and last - "the aerials".

In all these posts so far I think that I only saw one image with my favorite 105, so I thought that I would contribute some from my 105/4 micro-nikkor.

First is a drop of cedar oil being forced from the tree in the hot Texas sun.  Then a grasshopper trying to hitch a ride on my car windshield and final a Texas wildflower along the roadside.  Except for the grasshopper at f5.6, the rest at f4 on either D600 or D610:
Regards,
Bill Oliver

A signature image often used by me as the opening of a slide show presentation. With or without title of show.

One of my first digital UV captures with the legendary UV-Nikkor 105/4.5 (camera: D1 -- yes, the picture is 'ancient')

I was quite fond of the 105/2.8 AF in its time, despite the horrible AF operation and the A/M shift collar that could break and split the lens into two halves. These issues were solved permanently by epoxy glue and taping the collar with sturdy 'hockey stick' tape (same kind used for cycles).

Barnacles. Mercilessly cutting through flesh if you step on them.

I remember that quite well Birna, one of your nicest ones!!! Really like its Zen-like simplicity and those elegant colors!

For many years, I ran the 105/2.8 Micro-Nikkors AF and AiS concurrently. This is the latter.
