Armando cant really see if pins are bent, but the button of the eject seems lame i think the spring doesnt work as it should, the camera doesnt work with the cf card in any longer, wanted to take the d800 as backup going on a 10 day tour, will have to adapt then.
Thank you Armando.

Great shot, Fons.

A pity about the CF card reader.  I only use mine as back-up and never remove it (data transfer only via cable).

With an extra SD card (and the enormous sizes now of SD cards) you should not run into problems?

I guess i wasnt paying attention putting the cf card back into the camera will get it fixed though once i return gut feeling tells me repair may be costly.

Sorry to hear Fons. I din´t even know you can put it backwards... I hope your gut feeling is wrong and the repair will be fast and cheap.

I guess this time of the year calls for nature.

After a record warm and fast spring, the snow is almost gone in the mountains. But the reindeers have still their winter fur, so this herd has found a cold place for a rest on the ice at a litle lake.

Members might have noticed I'm not as industrious a contributor as before. The reasons are of course complex, but not necessarily imply I'm tired of photography. Not at all, as a matter of fact. However, my project contract with the Norwegian ministry of Environment has  been renewed and I'm busy documenting all those small and elusive plants found in our aquatic environment. Not very inspirational work, but it certainly brings in the required money.

This is the setup for high-magnification studies. Camera is the D810 and the lens in this case a Mitutoyo 5X. My old, faithful Gossen microflash died end of last years season, but I managed to locate a Novoflex fibreoptical device that by and large does the same job although with less 'flair' than my old lighting companion. Just press the Stackshot start button and let technology do the rest, I'd guess.

(for anyone interested, which probably only are a selected few, the subject is a leaf tip of Potamogeton pusillus L. 1753 em. Dandy & Taylor 1938. A very rare and endangered species in my country and high on the Red List).

I hope that it won't be that costly. Back in the day (2014) I opened up and replaced the CF card reader module in my D100 and the whole job took me less than an hour. The spare part cost was 24.00.

A D800 will need new rubbers that D100 didn't, but if the tech charges 1 hour of labor plus the spare part plus rubbers plus sensor cleaning, I will be amazed if the total cost is much more than EUR200.  :o

Here's a pic of my D100 with the old card module out and new one waiting to go in. (I hope a link to an old pic is okay, since I don't want to pollute this June thread with old pics. Mods delete if I broke the rules and apologies).

We not *that* formalistic on NG ... Your approach, providing a link instead of an embedded picture, is perfect. No need to apologise at all !!

Potamogeton pusillus, small pondweed certainly needs clean and clear water i think.

I'm a little envious this species is so much more common on the Continent and in the UK. Yes, it needs clean water with a high nutrient content and/or brackish water. It's so small and delicate the name should rather be "Tiny Pondweed". This specimen was just 3 cm in length.

Thank you Peter, i think the issue is more than a broken card holder since the cam fails to operate with a cf card inserted suggesting a damaged electrical contact.

Tom, these are elegant dogwoods.  The involucres of dogwoods seen here in Tokyo opens in the way the four parts break at their tips, and thus the tips of involucres are unavoidably damaged.  On the other hand, the involucres of your dogwoods don't look damaged.  I wonder how they look like before they open.
