I love to be picky but I don't know anything about mail-boxes. Isn't the flag supposed to be down if the box is empty?

chuck, you're right about the flag. I had printed out and rolled up a miniature newspaper but forgot to bring it along for the shot.

Thnx for the reference to Patrick Woodroffe. Didn't know him, but I will have a look at his work now that you mentioned him :)

Woodroffe also features hermit crabs in some of his paintings and I see some photos of same in your flickr stream, oddly enough.
