January style Sunday afternoon walk in Essen

Well, short story long: Harry and I had a walk in the German City of Essen which unveiled some nice tristesse.
All Nikon Df, 50/1.2 Ais.

1 -  as hot as the colors get
2 - the right of way
3 - grayness

all scenes are typical, means quite proper places, but not on the newest stand. The missing money and creativity are well seen and shown.

@ Frank: this is not Germany, yes it is an important part of it, counting the inhabitants, but it is no more a leading part.

 I can agree that this is Ruhr Area and here in a city that took down one of the most beautiful town halls in the 60 or 70`s -
 I do not know exactly when, and then was about 20 years without town hall -
 in a city that was eating money from steel and coal that had a family Krupp who was doing a lot of social real estate.

Now the money is gone and exactly these middle class areas from the 1960 - 2000  are now the back yards. 
BTW you find similiar scenes in Saarland in the former steel areas.

Thank you, Thomas. Not been to the Saarland since long and never for photographing.
The area where the shots were taken is particulary not on the bad side, it just looks a little forgotten.
Some of the neighbour streets already improve,- at the cost of rising rents.

Choice of subject, composition, (desaturated) colors; everything sustains the "tristesse" feeling of an industrial town which has seen the best.  Excellent.

Impressive series Thomas. I like the tone, the absence of sun, the greyness.  For me 4, 7 and 9 are good examples of the post-war German architecture and the style of the former industrial cities in Germany.

True, but has some advantages in thermal and weather protection perspective.
