Back to the present time with another masterpiece of architecture :

Le Viaduc de Millau, still south of France.

Architect : Norman Foster.

Built from year 2001 to 2004.

You can compare this viaduct with most famous bridges, by highlighting each bridge with your cursor. (source : wikipedia)

Oh, infinite perspective with a taunting size-for-measure. It works wonderfully.

This roman bridge is still being used daily to cross to the many factories on the other side.

Interesting. I can imagine originally the supporting arch was built from wood and in later times replaced with concrete?

Interesting. I have known this bridge from childhood and haven't noticed the (very ugly) concrete addition. It used to be just the stones as far as I know

That bridge in Marseille looks impressive, slender.

The Romans used concrete - in fact the mixture they used is stronger than modern concrete and strengthens over time due to chemical reactions - so that may be original rather than a later addition - the walls don't look deep enough to stand even with a wooden support.

Thanks Chris, I didn't know that. I've read this article on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_concrete. Fascinating.
