Tamron 15-30 F/2.8

I've bought the Tamron 15-30 F/2.8 [fill alphabet soup here]. I've only received it today, so started shooting some pictures to get acquainted with it. Nothing fancy and certainly not a formal lens test. Just stuff i'd like to use a wide angle for.

Feel free to comment, i'll be posting more as i go along. Two to start it off, first one a 3-image stack, second one straight into the sun (well uhm, a tree in front of it).

Those scenes remind me of open spaces in the Southeastern US.  I don't see any CA's around the bare branches against the sky, which is good.

with 15mm you can create alps in The Netherlands - at least I see in your pics, that you would be able to do it.
The lens looks promising, my only worries to exchange my Nkkor 17-35 against the Tamron is the mass...
but I am tempted

Thanks Ron. The CA seems under control, but i haven't explicitly tested for it. I can think of some situations where the lens would be tested more.

On the area, it's very close to my home (NL, Hapert, Cartier heide), but it is not by any stretch of imagination an open space. It is actually part of a forest with some open space with heather. It is very nice for a Sunday afternoon stroll with the kids though  :D

Thanks Thomas. At 15mm, every little bump seems like a mountain in the distance  8)

I agree on the weight, it's kept me away initially, looking at the Nikon 20 F/1.8 very interested. It must be a good lens, but i'm glad i chose the Tammy because of the zoom (i'm usually a prime lens guy). It actually balances quite nicely on the D810.

I'd say, go ahead and try one (in the shop or rent one). It is generally compared to the mighty 14-24 on performance, go figure.

Thank you Hans.

I bought this lens mainly for astro-landscape photography. Because it is pretty sharp even wide open, it does this very well.
