Do you mean configurable to? For same models, yes 16Gb is the max it could be used
You can't upgrade after you buy the laptop. That's why I bought my laptop with 16gb (max) because I wouldn't want to be lacking RAM a few years down.

For a few years already all Apple notebooks cannot be upgraded from what you purchase. You can select custom builds  (options for ssd, cpu, ram, gpu) but once the choice is made there is no further upgrade possible because the components are soldered in.
Many have moaned but clearly this is how Apple wants to operate.
AFAIAC the new MBP's are not attractive because they have only thunderbolt ports and there is no ram upgrade option.
Oh and I forgot to say they are way too much bloody expensive.

The ports are USB Type-C, the USB port to rule them all ;) all old USB devices should work with an adapter.

And yes, I too think they have become too expensive :(

Also I mourn the demise of magsafe.

There's an aftermarket connection that replaces it  ;)

Now the main question, how do the new models compare to the old ones?
Are they really that much faster? Looking at the specs I don't see a huge change in processing speed or RAM or storage? You get to keep the SD slot, the mag safe, and probably quite a few $.

You can't read the speed of the processor spec.

You need to run a benchmark test to compare the performance.

Yep a lot of adapters is needed,,,

I'd rather not have to recur to the aftermarket, spending additional money, to make up for Apple "fixing" what did not need to be fixed.

What's the point of a very sleek computer if you then have to encrust it with adapters? (more cost, more likelihood of breakage/incompatibility, more clutter, worse look)

I agree.

The more I look at this new Macbook Pros the more I like the versatility of my Thinkpad W540

Unfortunately this is not only Mac related. It's a trend among all brands... people want laps to be like tablets/iPads
My new HP needs a docking station to connect all I need...

And a Mac is more than looks... please don't start to shoot on me, I not pretending to sell anything  8)

Thank you for the link Jørgen. I will have to think hard before buying. I am pretty disappointed with the incompatibility and speed updates, CPU and RAM. Not to mention that I expected 512GB SSD as standard, not 256?!?!

Do whatever you feel best, but like on photography don't rely on just a couple of complaining people...

I use both machines (HP and Mac) both systems (Windows and OS) and I know what's best for me, and it wain't a lot of windows...

The lack of upgrades have become more and more standard on laptops and not just Apple's. Microsofts own Surface products aren't exactly cheap either. I mostly think the SSD upgrade prices are insane. A quick search for SSD's at a popular webshop here in DK shows 2TB SSD's sold for less than 7.000DKK. The upgrade price from 256GB to 2TB SSD in the new Macbooks is 12.000DKK. Granted, those SSD's are not nearly as fast as the SSD in the Macbooks, but these are retail prices, no doubt Apple gets a massive discount even though it's a state of the art SSD.
