Rumor: New MacBooks enroute
« on: March 25, 2016, 09:23:02 »
When Intel releases new mobile processors updates for Apples MacBook lineup are also to be expected, as Intel released their latest Skylake mobile processors a few months ago one can expect new MacBooks to be announced in the coming months.

First evidence has been found that an updated 12" MacBook will be released in "early 2016" which means it will be released in the coming month:

Digitimes also reports that based on supplier activity ultra thin 13" and 15" models are underway:

I have been waiting for this for a very long time...
Does this mean that the Mac Book Pros are obsolete?

I'm pretty sure the Macbook Pro's will continue to exist, a lot of people still want/need laptops with a good amount of power. I expect they will include at least 2 USB Type C ports. I wouldn't be surprised if they got a design refresh, the current design is several years old.
I've seen some speculation that the Macbook Air's will be discontinued at some point. That would make some sense if they make a new bigger Macbook model with perhaps a 14" retina display. It's about time they drop non retina displays in their lineup. Their Thunderbolt display is also in need of being upgraded.

What ever the case my new MacBook needs to have a Retina screen and enough horse power to process 42MP RAW files, with the slimmed down design a 15" might become more interesting than a 13" for my use.

The days of using non high res display are gone for me. It makes a big difference when reading text.

Another juicy rumours about the new MacBook Pro states that it will have Touch ID and use an OLED display touch bar (to replace physical function keys, located above the keyboard) and adopt USB- C / Thunderbolt 3.

Here's the link http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2016-macbook-pro-may-include-oled-display-touch-bar-and-touch-id.1974101/

Sounds like Apple is planning on making the MacBook Pro cutting edge again, the latest offering is nice but nothing out of the ordinary and is even outdated feature wise compared to the competition.

The MacBooks have a metal encasing for a reason, use them on a surface which can extend the radiator design and leave the air flow ports open.

Using them on your lap isn't usually the best option when editing big files, this blocks the air vents and the body can't dissipate its heat.

Also very useful is to block any flash content while browsing, tends to overdrive the CPU on my ancient MBA making it heat up very quickly :o

I am contemplating to buy a new notebook. My old book is fine but it is missing any fast I/O, so I lust for thunderbolt / USB-C / USB3

Microsoft offers the Surface Book for 1748€ including insider rebate. It is more or less like the next Macbook hardwarewise but running Windows.

I even thought about getting a Macbook ...

How good does Apple run Windows nowadays?

The rumor about the upcomming Macbooks also says that they might not arrive until Q4 this year.

Pretty well I think, but these days there are good Windows alternatives like the Dell XPS series.

Apple sure is taking forever.  By Q4 there will probably be a Skylake refresh.

That part of the rumour I'm trying to ignore  ::) ::)

My little 2011 MBA is still going strong but it's battery is slowly dying and 1440 pixels is starting to get a little old fashioned so wouldn't mind upgrading right now ;D

Some photos suggest that the OLED touchbar and 4 USB-C ports.
http://www.cultofmac.com/430982/spy-photos-all-but-confirm-2016-macbook-pros-oled-touchpad/#disqus_thread

I applaud the USB-C ports, now you can hook any device or charger on either side, downside is that its no longer magnetic so things will break when tripping on the power cord.
Cheers,
Jan Anne
