Sometimes progress isn't moving forwards  :o :o :o

But as often is the case some clever engineers came up with a simple solution ;D

I completely lost count on the times I walked away with the MBA still being plugged in, for the magsafe connector is pretty much a must. I've seen a friend ruin the motherboard of his Sony Vaio because he tripped over the power cable, rendered the Vaio completely useless.

Jan, that would save many Mac users.  Glad to know!

I thought the Mag Safe was one of the most brilliant invention ever for the notebook PC of any kind, and the omission on the MacBook was one of the bad decisions Apple have made since the passing of Steve Jobs.

Does it indicate the fading charisma of Jobs?

I agree with Akira, I really liked the Mag Safe and will miss it dearly in the new ones, whenever they finally appear  ::)

4 usb type c ports sounds like a decent amount, but I doubt they'll all support thunderbolt and USB 3.1.

Excuse my ignorance - but if it comes with only one port - where does the rest go?

USB-C ports will replace all other ports and will support protocols like USB 3.1, Thunderbolt 3, DisplayPort, etc while being able to provide power at 5-20 Volt up to 100 Watt.

To use legacy devices one needs an USB-C to USB-A, mini USB, micro USB, Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, etc cable or adapter to make the physical connection.

In the end we just use USB-C to USB-C cables for everything you want to hook up to the PC / Mac and the onboard chips will figure out which protocol to use, if the device needs power or can deliver power, etc, etc.

Maybe the attached pic will explain a few things  :)

USB-C will also support PCI Express which in essence is the protocol used internally, this allows a low power MacBook (or PC) to connect to multiple 5K screens with integrated GPU's for the local processing of the graphical content.

Here's the rumour that Apple is working on such displays

Okey but its ONE port isnt it - so one needs an adapter to plug in more than one thing - eg printer, scanner, charger etc?

Yup.  Ordinary users can go wifi for the printer, but I'm not sure if there are any offering the quality for the professional photographers.

With the MacBook you're supposed to do everything thru WiFi.  :)
There are adapters available so you can use more devices (There are basic ones with 3 connections. OWC has a comprehensive one, but at a price)
