Thanks Richard, a true dinosaur that lens,,, And what a funny simple and yet complex design - Strangely different, looks like some OEM design adopted by Nikon

Very interesting and informative, Richard.  Didn't know the Nikkor 45mm f/2.8 Ai-P was designed by Cosina, but it doesn't surprise me, it has some pleasant rendering characteristics like the Voigtlander 58/1.4 and 90/3.5

yes. this is a very weird lens by Nikon standards  :o :o :o

along the weird lenses series, I am going to make a post of the 5.5cm f/3.5 micro  ::) which is unusual enough to be considered a weird Nikkor.

next would probably a PC-Nikkor  ::) politically correct nikkor  :P

I found decoupling focusing and aperture control on my 45 GN to be necessary for the lens to be usable for ordinary shooting. Otherwise focusing is too awkward, slow,  and plagued with imprecision and play. I suspect the cam controlling the aperture wears quickly as well.

yes it does, the pin wears quickly  :o :o :o

it is just a thin pin as you can see in the tear down. no surprise since it was one of the cheapest Nikkor that you can buy at the time

If you compare it with the Voigtlander Ultron 40/2 they are not really overpriced, both around 350 USD or lower, I guess.

Rick, I have shied away from the lenses in that condition, no matter how cheaply they can be had except for the cases in which some of their parts are usable.
