OK! just posted this. I believe that this is the only information on the net regarding the maintenance of this lens. I hope that you enjoy this! :o :o :o

Thanks Richard, a true dinosaur that lens,,, And what a funny simple and yet complex design - Strangely different, looks like some OEM design adopted by Nikon
-
Rick, I surely enjoyed your post just like other ones. Thanks for sharing!

Very interesting and informative, Richard. Didn't know the Nikkor 45mm f/2.8 Ai-P was designed by Cosina, but it doesn't surprise me, it has some pleasant rendering characteristics like the Voigtlander 58/1.4 and 90/3.5

Yes, it was subcontracted to Cosina :o :o :o
they are overpriced now. I am actually looking for one to play with. ::) however, i am saving up for a NOCT ::)

yes. this is a very weird lens by Nikon standards :o :o :o
along the weird lenses series, I am going to make a post of the 5.5cm f/3.5 micro ::) which is unusual enough to be considered a weird Nikkor.
next would probably a PC-Nikkor ::) politically correct nikkor :P

Thank you, Akira! do you have any lenses that focuses really bad or is super dirty? lets clean it! :o :o :o

I found decoupling focusing and aperture control on my 45 GN to be necessary for the lens to be usable for ordinary shooting. Otherwise focusing is too awkward, slow, and plagued with imprecision and play. I suspect the cam controlling the aperture wears quickly as well.

yes it does, the pin wears quickly :o :o :o
it is just a thin pin as you can see in the tear down. no surprise since it was one of the cheapest Nikkor that you can buy at the time

Thanks for another interesting post.

If you compare it with the Voigtlander Ultron 40/2 they are not really overpriced, both around 350 USD or lower, I guess.

Rick, I have shied away from the lenses in that condition, no matter how cheaply they can be had except for the cases in which some of their parts are usable.

Thanks for another interesting post.

Preparing for the next travel adventure i found that my copy of this lens had serious issues opening up the aperture blades, they would stick and only move very slowly,,,
Since it's such a nice performer in Infrared I investigated the cause, after total disassembly I could see that the grease had seeped into almost all moving parts of the internals except the aperture blades themselves. The slow movement was cause by the aperture blade actuation disc was filled with stick grease residue - The blades and aperture blade area had somehow not been contaminated. Not too bad except for the time,,,
