One of my UV-Nikkors mounted on a Nikon D100. I initially had high hopes for this camera for UV, but quickly abandoned these after some test shots.

J-3Plus, Optimized for Each by fiftyonepointsix, on Flickr

One for each, M9 and M Monochrom with J-3+ lenses. I put one layer of mylar tape on the RF cam of the J-3+ on the M Monochrom to optimize for deep-yellow/orange filters. Color filters produce a shift towards infinity, using a thin tape corrects for the back-focus.

A rewind to film-based UV photography. The F4 loaded with Fuji RTP film combined with the UV-Nikkor 105 mm f/4.5 lens, Nikon FF filter in a hinged AF-1 mount, and the SB-140 flash formed the base foundation for my UV photography during the early '90s.

Decades later, I still use the same UV-Nikkor lens and SB-140 flash, so these were made to standards almost unheard of today. Food for thought, perhaps.

I had one of these like-new, in a box. Went for a good price to someone in Japan. The lens makes you want to use it. The "Anastigmat Special" is an "Ektar" lens. Kodak lenses marked "Ektar" are good. I should look for a broken camera to convert the lens to Leica mount.

Can anyone tell me why Nikon phased out that little white balance dealie on top of the viewfinder in the D2 series?  I think it was also on the F4  I assume it was for white balance, but I don't know for sure.  Seems like a cool idea, so I wonder if they figured out a better way or what?

Yes it was WB - The internal light-meter sensor went up in mega pixels later on D3
