Now, that is a great way of using a long exposure Atle I assume the sea was quit calm?

Calm enough to trying capture Aurora on deck without tripod. But not calm enough to benefit from a tripod for that purpose.

This one is capture with a Berlebach mini in the windowsill at the bridge.

This image of Muckle Flugga Light has been taken from onboard MS Norröna steaming by. D700, AF-S 60mm 2.8, @ f/8 t30s, Berlebach Mini Maxi tripod, on deck.
The light flashes twice every 20 seconds. Carries 22 nautical miles (about 40km).

Thomas, your image inspired me to dig out an old one from 2010.
This was taken during the Norwegian Scavenger Tour.
El Presidente, Aleksandra, Erik and I embarked on a long journey from Bergen to Denmark.
Enthusiasts as we were back then, Erik and I mounted our cameras on a tripod thinking how the ship was so big that it would glide on the surface of the sea
Needless to say that I froze my body parts in the process...

Nordic colors to my liking. Light traces wrapped as the filaments in a strong rope. Very nautical.
Bringing layers of warm clothing evidently seems a good idea onboard a ship in the northern Atlantik   
I usually hesitate to print or post images with star-o-glyphs. Nice to see you posting anyway.
May need to rethink my understanding of what is not ok and what is.

Just getting patient enough to collect sufficient light traces I took the signature of a passed by fishing vessel.
Heavy cropping allows a closer look at the full set of navigational lights which can be seperated from the 2 very bright fishing net beams.

I like the laser sword light beam and come revisiting the image.
Strong setting, I think because of the off set 'laser' beam nailing the eye of the spectator.
On the second view it's not really sure if the beam is going off the ship or coming down on it

Appearance deceives; these dogs are the best friends one can think of and are just engaged in friendly play.
Exposure time is 1/60s, and the fierce image expression would not have been the same with a shorter shutter speed.

Hyperdrive:

D300 + 18-105VR.
10 Sec exposure. About 8 sec or so was to burn in the tree into the image at 18mm or so, and the last couple of seconds to make the light trails, zoomed in(but can't remember how far).
So the 18mm focal length isn't entirely accurate.
