Cold weather in winter often means the presence of the sun. As the power of the winter sun is very weak at this latitude, sunshine does little to warm the frozen photographer. However, it still is useful to create light effects around trees and branches.

Today's mid day view from the veranda of my girl friend's apartment, -20C thus not as cold as during the last night when we experienced down to -26C. Nikon Df, 105/1.8 Nikkor AIS @ f/11. The shadows are intensively cold blue as they only receive diffuse light from the sky.

Apparently you were using the same techniqhe as for this image in the post #18.

playing with LED street lighting on a midnight welcome-the-snow walk.
Background of most pics is showing heavy urban glow. Unfortunately the industrial fires are gone...

Try tripod-mounted camera for long exposures of falling snow in city streets. You will be surprised. Hint: best to use a long lens.

Chances are that I'll try that. Depends on availability of falling  snow though.

Thanks for the hint and the inspiration!

Again, the same winter sight from the same standpoint. This time into the night with the moon as a light source. Still very cold, -24C.

Hand-held with Df and the 105/1.8 wide open. Didn't bring my tripod as I called for social reasons only (well, almost only).

OK, admittedly not this winter, but had I plucked up the courage to drive a few km to get there and ignored my current cold-induced asthma predicament, this scene is precisely what I would have observed. Even down to the thin dusting of snow. Should have been much deeper snow pack in January.

The road sees light traffic at this time of the year, so patience had to be mandatory.

A kind of 'recap' of the winter till now, as temperatures go up to +4 tomorrow.  A bit of snow and temperatures around -4 the last few days.

Dandelions and Tussilago are there already, 2 months early. Lumia 930, jpg for the Dandelion, dng for the Tussilago (and my first attempt at PS)

Lonicera fragrantissima was full of bees. I only had the Heligon 50/0.75 for a quick break in the garden.

Daffodils... I've been showing the buds already, today, 2016-01-27, they are flowering.

Whilst out for a walk yesterday, I was struck by how early the blossom is here in the UK too.
In most years, the coldest months of the year here would be January and February - not this year (yet) it seems:

Colin,
this must be some welcome color in the winter landscape.

Today,
we had the crocuses showing their heads. It's rainy and windy, the light dull and dark.
