I had to solve issues with light/shadow and the red color of the rose hip where the solution lies in BW post processing.

There are rose species with black hips though. Rosa pimpinellifolia is widely distributed in Europe.

Yes, sand dunes and beaches are a common habitat for this Rose species. The stems are indeed densely covered with thin prickly thorns.

Thanks, Frank. It really is an Aspen glow, but I'm not sure that it is/was actually an Aspen. The leaves seemed to be too small....
