Thank you very much  Akira :)

I was very lucky with this shoot the bird stays for a couple of minutes on the same branch maybe it needs to show the catch to others, seeking company, before eat the spider and leave 8)

Nice photo. During breeding season, the birds confidently expose themselves, trying to attract attention, so as not to reveal the location of their nest.

Exactly

The Plovers (Charadrius) have a fascinating way of causing distraction by acting as if wounded/having a broken wing to protect the nest. A friend and I observed this behavior at a shore - he was out to test his Z 180-600 and got quite close to a Plover and had plenty of time to get some nice images. It turned out we were quite close its nest and their eggs are well camouflaged and blends with the pebbles on a beach. Luckily we didn't step on them - seems the distraction worked.

Nice Plover eggs Lars :)

Last month I sold my Z8  :( and 180/600, I just made a downgrade, dont ask me why, I regret a bit for the camera..
But l couldn't stand not having any camera, so just bought a Nikon Z50II  to be together with my 500pf :)
So I run the usual ultimate speed test: shooting swallows :)
I have to say this little camera is a nice surprise, quick and sticky to the birds eye and body! the worst issue is the slide show/delay on the EVF but I overcome it shooting small 1-2 sec bursts.

Gosh - big changes Nasos

But judging by these 3 pics, your skills are also supported by the Z50II
Unless you've already posted it, I'd really like to hear your thoughts on the two bodies, esp for BIF.

Two things caught my eye:
- the small insect being chased by the swallow in the first pic
- the feathers on the belly of the third pic - almost like fish scales!
I've never noticed that before,  but your clear, sharp focused & brilliantly captured image helps highlight this.

Kingfisher taking off.

Lovely.
A great example of a decisive moment - poised, committed but not yet launched

Did you have to creep up & sit patiently for ages, or was this more of a spontaneous opportunity?

Colin you are  spot on :)
Yes the small insect exists and the birds mouth is open ready to eat it,  thats the  reason to post this shoot :)
The feathers shows identical to a fish thats also surprised me
But another thing that you can see in the second photo is the symmetry that exists  on the body and the feathers of the bird :o

These birds are in continuous motion, they never stop to fly and the main reason is feeding. They feed themselves with all that tiny insects they catch, but seen them doing that continuously for many hours I cannot understand how come this tiny piece of food is becoming so much energy to fly :o
Thats Nature!

To answer your question: in terms of AF the two cameras seems equal but Z8 is completely black out free and Z50ii has a slide show as when you shoot with a DSLR
When you shoot with electronic shutter there is no black out  but the EVF freezes for milliseconds and if you shoot continuously you may miss the new position of the bird
But as you stated earlier if you adapt yourself with the changes you can do the job
Dont expect to see better image quality but if you fill the frame and use denoise software it can be close to FF

Its lighter, smaller, it can go anywhere without the fear to carry an expensive camera, dont have to pay the extra features, nor have to sell your car to buy it

I hope this  helps, I already got  beautiful pictures to post, stay tuned and thank you!

Thanks, Colin and Nasos.

Kingfishers do not stay long in one place. I watched this one on the post for a few minutes (taking some record shots) and then saw it lean forward into a dynamic position. I thought it was about to take off, and started shooting at 20fps. Even at that fps, I only managed to capture one decent shot - they are very fast!

Precapture would be ideal in that situation, but I have not yet come to grips with it.
