I like the many pictures but I also long for more comments. I will comment more too. OK?

Indeed Frank comments have been lacking broadly :)

Perhaps people are overwhelmed by the tsunami of minimalistic images? There has been a surprising variety of expressions here. I'm guilt of contributing my share of these ...

Writing comments with a content takes time. We have deliberately refrained from dumbing down NG by "Like" buttons or similar nonsensical window-dressing.

I'm somewhat confused about the definition of a minimalist image. The first that comes to my mind is a lot of negative space but apparently that is not a prerequisite. As always, there's a grey zone of course.

Fortunately, no "likes" business, my interpretation is many of us are online through their phones, and often at a work environment, which makes commenting at least not easy.

Much can be said about accessing non-work-related sites during working hours .... but enough of that. There is a life outside the job too.

Only about 7% of the traffic to NG comes from mobile phones and tablets.  Thus that by itself should not be an obstacle to having more comments.

I for once am overwhelmed with the quantity and quality of the images posted here -NikonGear as a whole-. I can barely keep up with seeing them, let alone comment. It is not fair but it is the most honest approach I can do as today. I hope I will have more time in my hands soon. It is not
something I "have to do" but something I will "like to do". In the mean time, I try to make good use of the little time I have to spend here making a balance between looking at all of your work, posting images of my own and engaging in a comment-critique here and there.
Thanks again to all of you for making this site possible.

NG is, now nearly six months after its inception, in a remarkable situation. The site  growth has been so fast that it's nearly impossible for anyone, including the Team, to keep up with the sheer volume of images and information content posted.  However, we are dealing with a problem of luxury so different from a site slowly becoming a ghost of its former glory.

Just remember where we come from - that's explaining a lot. NG has a luxury problem, ie. of getting so much content we strive to come to grips with it all. Not every photo site is in a similar situation at present. I have the statistics but no need to present the figures here.

It seems as though we each have our own definitions of what a minimalist image consists of. In this thread I've found a blend of images that are minimal in subject matter and images that are minimalist images. There is a difference though definitions of this nature are tricky. Initially when I think of the best minimalism I imagine a James Turrell exhibit, or works that consist of few elements, often plenty of negative space, and ideally are incredibly moving in their execution and simplicity.

Minimalism. To say as much as possible with as little as possible.

Eb touched on this earlier, speaking of which the image he posted (post #69) is not something I would initially think of when imagining minimalism because of how busy it is. But it has only two elements to it, sounds like minimalism to me. This is why it can be tricky, and perhaps futile, to define things of this nature.

I think 'minimalist' is equally tricky to define as say 'pornography'. We know it when we see it.
