I need something more than landscape type images. Those are not my best and don't come so naturally for me.
i will bring my own Jamesons.
or are we going to Costa Rica? Alaska? Japan?

I've been to quite a few bits of Norway by now, including Lofoten twice, including the last NG thrash there, but you can include me wherever it is, including Lofoten.

Clear?

Just as Dave said...
I've loved Lofoten on the two occasions I visited it. I would not mind going back, or anywhere else, I am sure there will be tons of opportunities.
The main problem would be finding spousal approval, but with sufficient notice maybe this can be arranged if it is only for a few days.

Since I got only a small slice of the Lofoten gathering, I'm all for another one. Where and when isn't really that important. The company and inspiration from all the good folks is the key factor for me. But Lofoten suits me just fine. Easy accsess from where I live. But as long as I can fit it in my schedule, plane travel is no issue.

There's a remote chance I might get my wife to agree to let me go to Norway for some days in 2016 but Svalbard would be utterly out of discussion.

Svalbard would be cool, but what are the costs? I bet it's quite expensive which means it's a no go for me :(

A quick search for some random dates in september gives this rates for the flight. All prices in NOK.

yes I know Svalbard is the most expensive place to go on earth - but this would be bucket list stuff - for me anyway  ;)

but lets get back to Lofoten etc

My feeling is that you guys have already been there - and we guys have seen the photos. How about something  or some place different?
Considering I am willing to fly half way around the world - which is extremely expensive from South Africa - not only flights - but everything is double or more in Norway.

I know it's still early days - so it would be good to share as much info here as possible. This is one of the reasons I would like to see member's country of residence with your avatar - easy to see who, from where, might be interested in a trip.

Frankv: Those prices aren't that bad. What I'm more worried about is the actual stay. If I understood it correctly, you need tour guides with guns to travel and then there is the equipment, I don't own any long lenses and I think long lenses would be more or less a requirement? I of course might be wrong on both accounts.

Anyway, given my current financial situation (unemployed), I'm not going anywhere but that will hopefully change before 2016 :)

Jørgen - at this point - as much as I would like it - Svalbard is not an option. Financially.

Although Lofoten was spectacular I'm not seeing myself going there again anytime soon, too many other places on the bucket list.

Also I think a cheaper place that doesn't charge 9 euros for a beer would be a better option to keep things affordable for all :)

Correct me if I am wrong, but the high price of beer is not an exclusive of Lofoten.
Alcohol is expensive throughout Norway.
Based on this I expect that in Svalbard everything would be inaffordably expensive, at least for the majority.

I am interested in a Scavenger meeting, especially if it is in Northern Norway, but not in Svalbard.
