We are told to buy expensive alcohol so we all can contribute to the wealth of the nation, which in turn implies the more we drink, the richer we'll be :D

Joke aside, I'm very sure our local NG friends up in the high North can be convinced into making such arrangements, provided there is interest in an Arctic encounter.

I would love to gather somewhere with other scavengers.
If Norway is too expensive, how about Scotland? I would love to visit the Laphroaig distillery :)
We could also chase some castles in Germany, I know Erik would like that...

Although Lofoten was spectacular I'm not seeing myself going there again anytime soon, too many other places on the bucket list.

Also I think a cheaper place that doesn't charge 9 euros for a beer would be a better option to keep things affordable for all :)

Correct me if I am wrong, but the high price of beer is not an exclusive of Lofoten.
Alcohol is expensive throughout Norway.
Based on this I expect that in Svalbard everything would be inaffordably expensive, at least for the majority.

I am interested in a Scavenger meeting, especially if it is in Northern Norway, but not in Svalbard.

Taxes are low in Svalbard, so prices are not as high as you might think.  There are lots of bars with a wide selection of beers.

The long and the short is as follows (as Moi sees it)

Lofoten - been done a couple of times
Svalbard - too expensive for mere mortals
Norway - alcohol pricey
Where to go?

Somewhere that will consider all the participants :

1. Financially
2. Photographically
3. Cheap alcohol
4. Time travel - within reason

In my book, only the #1 on the list of Elsa is decisive.

We ought to know by now that any venue will do, photographically. It is all about the perception and imagination not about location.

#3 on the list is only of some  [minor] importance if you plan to drink heavily. However, in that case you might not be too preoccupied with photography anyway.

#4 - a reality check is in order:  All air travel is boring. You snooze a couple of hours more on the longer international travels. Fewer crossings of time zones might be more important than travel time on its own due to the adverse impact of jet lag.

What isn't on her list, but definitively should be there, is any presence of local NG members within a reasonable reach of the planned destination.

Another possibility may arise:
Svalbard in August 2016.
Talked to my brother and he has some connections up there. A dedicated ship and price pr. person in the 3500-4500 USD pr. person (flights to/from Longyearbyen not included). Sail route as we want it. Barentsburg, Ny-Ålesund, walrus, polar bears, glaciers, etc.
Very early days yet but if interest build up here I will pursue this.

Where to go?
Glad you asked  ;D

We are looking at the Schwarzwald National Park in Germany at the moment for a Scavenger trip somewhere in September this year, details are coming shortly so stay tuned.

Stunning sceneries, cute and colourful towns, great beer, driving distance for a lot of members and close to several airports.

Here's some appetisers in the meantime:

And not entirely by coincidence, the Schwarzwald Hochstrasse ranks number 7 in the Ultimate Drives Top 10  ;)
