I'm kind of warming to the 12-28 PZ Nikkor for my Z/Dx cameras. Colour aberrations are quite well under control, sharpness is good, flare resistance likewise is good too; however there is significant barrel distortion at the very wide end. Nikon's software or in-camera generated jpgs will mitigate most of these issues.
When the end user, like me, uses non-Nikon software for processing, te barrel distortion is obvious but that won't entail it is always require digital massage in order to be of little pictorial importance.
This image from Oslo Central Station underscores that point. It is taken at 12mm setting, and due to the bending lines in the subject I didn't find it necessary to do any corretion of the barrel distortion at all.
