Richard: Just a few random pictures with the Nikkor 400mm f/5.6 ED non-IF. For you.

In terms of colour rendition these come out very clean and crisp.
Great stuff. In my opinion is the 400/5.6ED non-IF one of the greatest lenses ever made. And they are compact too.

What do you mean :o :o :o

To ease the binding or stiffness of the helicoid focus ring, I lift the front of the lens slightly with the index finger on my left hand. I learned to do this with a 300/4.5 H Nikkor and subsequently use this technique with my 400/5.6 ED AI.

Best,

Dave

Visionary Paco!

Here a more mundane attempt from my side. Sunrise quite recently, 4x5 on Fomapan 100 B&W film. F/16, 59sec (because Foma has a wild reciprocity failure  :o).

 Thank you Hans!

How do I * Frank permanently get rid of bracken?

Repeated removal of new stems and sections of rhizome will weaken and eventually eradicate bracken. Position your fork at the base of the stems to minimise soil disturbance. Cut or crush stems – damage fronds by cutting them back or crushing them while shoots are still young and tender.

*I  happen to like Bracken in all its subspecific variability

in the past and future forest. currently out of service.

Is there a cure for fern? any fast growing cover crop that feeds on it and supports the new trees as well?

NikonGear is a bad influence. Why else would I be trying to use an enlarging lens on a short focusing helicoid to take a portrait?

Nikon Zf, Leitz Focotar 50mm f/4.5

We feel your pain :)

On the other side, why not? The focusing likely is very slow, like in the older days, and that might, just might, make taking the photo more enjoyable??

Besides, enlarger lenses tend to be quite affordable items.
