Tilted free hand? As on the lens not secured im the mount?
Emulated view camera, Paco. Meaning I took a series of frames with different focus point and combined all of them (N=8) in Zerene Stacker afterwards.
The image circle of most 35mm/FX lenses is too small to allow front lens tilt or shift, and the extension provided by the focusing mount itself prevents likewise rear tilt/shift. The multiple frame stacking eschews those issues, however is mainly suitable for stationary motifs.

i see. That makes way more sense than my mental image ;D

How the stacking has influenced the d.o.f. is a bit lost on me Birna.

Same principle as the focus stacking approach used for macro and microscope work, but on a much bigger scale. Best done with a medium long lens to avoid scene warping away from the centre.
With the view camera one usually tilted either front or rear standards to redistribute DOF. That came at a cost for the geometry. Thus the emulation sketched here makes less geometric distortion and still has the zone of DOF as a plane normal to the optical axis, instead of the cone you got with the view camera. Either approach work well within their constraints, but the stacking is better if tall objects are encountered, and the scene is static.

I rented an earlier cousin of this lens a few years ago, having had great success with the lighter f4 version
The subjects (Red kites, only 50m away, swooping low & moving quite fast) proved impossible for me to track with the extra weight & bulk.
If I'd had a week or so to practice, things might have been different

Thank you Paco. I will post it also in Shape Echo.
Yes, the 24-70 vr is also excellent on the Z6 and Z9. Actually I prefer the VR above the too perfect 24-70 2.8S which gives a bit life-less results.
And the 24-70vr also shines on the D700 but that is not a surprise. ;)

I just read that the issues may be linked to using eye AF and VR linked to focus position - something I have set it to do.
I haven't yet had more issues than I'd expect but last Sunday when using eye AF on a group of people from further away I had a few misfocused photos.
Actually we might better discuss this further in the Zf thread.

We revived the damaged Z9 simply by carefully extracting the loose, stuck tile of the shutter curtain. The remaining tiles seem OK. By setting the curtain option to 'OFF', the cameras happily soldiers on as before. I just have to be more careful as the sensor surface now is entirely unprotected during lens swaps.
During the stuck curtain incident, I got some heavy crud on the sensor, but nothing worse than can be removed by deep cleaning (hopefully). Anyway I could record the morning pea-soup fog we experience at present. Setting the fast Viltrox lens to near wide open, most of the dirt on the sensor got blasted to oblivion by unsharpness alone. So task myself with a deep-rinse of the Z9 later today.

The 15 Heliar has electronic communication to the camera ? I have used the old 15/4.5 for F cameras through a nice F-Z adapter, and the solution is extremely compact and light weight, but prone to severe vignetting. What about the new design in that respect?
I just got the Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 for my Zf, and it is an excellent performer, but rather heavy.

A nice opportunity to test that the Z9 works after the recent make-shift "untiling" operation, and that the Viltrox 75mm F/1.2 has survived the bad knocks and bumps it -- unintentionally -- received of late. Shooting the lens almost wide open answered both question with a resounding 'yes'.

I'm using the 40/2 SE on Zfc and Zf, and on Z5 (for IR). It works very well on all these bodies. No complaints as to AF functionality and accuracy on either of these cameras.

That's the one I got Akira and Birna. It mounts smoot to the Zf and communicates focal length & aperture to the body.
I love the handling on the Zf with the aperture control on the lens. So far I haven't seen excessive vignetting but will do a test for it.
The Viltrox has obviously much larger aperture. Is it good for night sky (coma)?

I'm using the 40/2 SE on Zfc and Zf, and on Z5 (for IR). It works very well on all these bodies. No complaints as to AF functionality and accuracy on either of these cameras.
In a reportage I used the 1.0/50V the Z2.0/40 the AF-S1.4/24 and the AF-S1.8/85
The only lens that gave me mushy pics was the Z2.0/40

Bad luck ? I just reviewed all photos I made with this lens since I bought it : no issues, and certainly not AF (except when the face recognition picked up the wrong person), not even in bad or low light. Under which conditions did you get mush?

I shot over 500 pictures yesterday while in Rotterdam the Zf icw mainly the Z28mm f/2.8 some with the Z40 f/2.8 and a few with Z85 f/1.8S, the number of failed shots i guess about 10 or a few more, some errors on my part definitely some where the camera or lens failed to focus.
What i did change in my setup i locked the focus point in central frame and turned off the focus to coincide with vr..

Glad you like it, Ann! The mixed backlight and the longitudinal chromatic aberration may have helped here.

Love it Ian!
Your image reminds me of a family friend who is an eye doctor & medical researcher and on one occasion she was returning home to Australia after having attended an international eye conference with several dozen eyes from dead people amongst her luggage - which she dutifully declared to customs along with the special paperwork for the import of human tissues - as is required here.
A somewhat officious customs offer demanded to inspect them and threw up at what they saw - served the silly bugger right! LOL ;D

Ruth's reunion concert was a huge sucess in all regards. The venue was crammed to beyond capacity with hundreds of persons and still people in a waiting line snaking around the corner.
I took mainly video at the event, but allowed myself a snapshot or two at the group in between. There were several camera crews present shooting footage for a planned documentary film. I availed myself of the rare moments where a crew had made itself scarce in front of the performers.

Thank you John.
Do you like the 24-70vr better than its predecessor, the vr may make the difference in certain situations?
I still like the previous 24-70 which is in the center extremely sharp and most useful also in macro-situtions. However, the vr is more versatile, and overal sharper image. And it works better on all the Nikon camera's giving the older cameras an extra plus and enhancing it's output on the Z camera's. The rendering is more pleasant than the Z 24-70/2.8S which is too clinical in my feeling.
And extra: Especially on older camera's like the D3x, D2, D1 and Fuji S3-S5 the VR is a compensation for it's lower ISO margin.

A Visitor in the middle of the night.
Very nice gecko image, Akira! I agree with Ann.
They are fascinating lizards - when I as a child saw a gecko for the first time climbing a vertical glass surface, I was baffled. Ingenious feet.
Unfortunately we don't have geckos in Denmark - must be nice to have them visiting from time to time to debug the home :)

Thank you, Lars! Actually, the gecko is called "ya-mori" in Japan, and that means "the guardian of the house", because they eat bugs.

That makes perfect sense, Akira! I actually do have a gecko in the house but it's a kind of scarecrow for bugs - doesn't have much effect, though.. ;D

Funny picture. At first sight, I keep seeing it inverted, i.e. I see a carved wood panel, with something greenish in the background. That may be due to the gecko being less textured than the wood...
-

The usual bird killer façade. While the dispute on the toll taken by windmills is going on (as it should), I recently read that the death toll on birds of such buildings and their big reflective glass panes lies in the billions per year.

It is a kitchen towel hanger :)
Airy, maybe your eyes are fooled a bit by a poor quality phone image. Apart from the hooks, the head and tail also bends out.
It might also work as a cheese grater, Akira - quite coarse grated cheese.
-

hahaha. Thanks Hugh.
Curtains do still hang but they show some traces of sudden rough usage. They constantly team up, also now with the original cat-members of the family.

Very British shot of a very British landscape. I particularly like the succession of several planes, from the closest (the blurry blossoms...) to the most distant (clouded sky), and the sunlight variations that brings additional contrast while the whole remains pleasantly "dull" (in a good sense). I recently spent summer holidays in nearby Ludlow (Shropshire) but failed to get such perspectives, too lazy for climbing.
