I'm still using Capture NX2 (2.4.7) on my WinXP VM as its all I need for my old generation DSLRs. I didn't move over to Capture NX-D mainly because I ddint want to maintain 2 workflows (1000s of NEFs that I had processed with NX2) - secondly the initial versions of NX-D didnt save edits to the NEF or update the embedded thumb/preview images
This latter point was most important for me as if I wanted to quickly get my "processed" image, I could simply pull the embedded preview image using exiftool or exiv2.
With NX Studio 1.7.0 (June 2024 release) and a Win10 VM, I have discovered:
- CNX2 files modified for WB, exposure settings, crops ARE respected in NX Studio
- CNX2 updated thumbnail/previews are shown in NX Studio gallery view
- NX Studio updates, saving edits to NEF, does NOT update preview/thumb image
- NX Studio updateds to NEFs (WB, exposure settings or crops) are NOT recognised in CX2 (as expected)
This may not mean much to folks that have long moved from D300s etc but I have no need for Windows or a break in workflow. I think I will only bite the NX Studio bullet only when I upgrade to the Nikon mirrorless but at least when I do, I will still have easy quick edit workflow (NX Studio) for my legacy NEFs processed in CNX2
