[Theme] Zuiko OM: old love never dies!
« on: May 24, 2020, 12:57:15 »
I came to Nikon in 1988 after the OM-3 was announced and shortly afterwards the whole system was dumped by Oly except for the OM-4 and OM-10. I always missed the rendering. Now, 32 years later, these beauty creators can be adapted to my Z6 and shine as the always did or even more...

The K&F adapter works, kind-off, but will go back home. It has to be the Novoflex, a much more reliable partner.

Why not change the theme in vintage film lenses, non-nikkors for instance,

Z6 - Tair-11A - 2.8/135

I think it is "First love never dies." It was for me, I thought, with  the OM-1, which I came to from a Pen F, and I can't remember the exact year, but I think 1975 was the year the Pen, lightly used, came to me, and I know that in summer 1977, when I arrived in what was then West Germany, it was with a  recently purchased OM-1, with 50mm and 24mm lenses. But that love paled by the end of 1977, for I had been seduced by Nikon and its F2SB. I've been faithful to the brand ever since, and my Df now holds centre place in my heart. Earlier this year I was at a Germany days reunion in Canada and met the second owner of my OM-1, forty years after selling him the camera and lenses, and I couldn't help enquiring about the Olympus, and was relieved to learn that he had handed  on the camera and its lenses, still in good condition, somewhere in the last forty years, to a young , enthusiastic photographer. Maybe it is "Old love never dies." Beautiful camera.

Just for fun, some images from a 35mm f2.0 Zuiko lens, adapted from an old Olympus rangefinder camera.

Thank you, Toby.

Kenneth, I cannot use my OM-1n today. There is no way to adapt it to my eyesight not even with a custom eyepiece. I went to a master optician, he analyzed the situation...

here is my current collection:

100 f/2.8
55 f/1.2
50 f/1.4
24 f/2.8

not sure about the 24, the others are keepers!

The K&F adapter works, kind-off, but will go back home. It has to be the Novoflex, a much more reliable partner.

What issues do you have with K&F?

Mine sits very loose on the Z-camera side and I had one case when I grabbed the camera by the lens and it fell off the adapter.

It sits pretty well on the OM-Side though and reading through the comments at amazon.com I guess loose fit on the Z-side is a common feature of the K&F but not on any incarnation of the adapter.

That is why I ordered the expensive Novoflex (119€) now and send back the medium price K&F (48€).

The OM Zuiko 55 f/1.2 (I got mine for 300€ in excellent condition) is an awesome lens and justifies the adapter alone.

all pictures at f/1.2, except for second picture at f/2.8

Sounds scary!

I have ordered a K&F for Nikon to E mount and I am having really bad experience with it too. First, after I used my 100-300 on it for only a few times, the adapter parts got badly loosen. It turned out that the screws (which look cheap) were tapped into the aluminum and they do not hold strong enough. Second, oil was dripping from the adapter. I disassemble the adapter completely and dip all the parts into mineral spirit. I cleaned everything and put them together again. Not sure why they put so much grease inside it. It was pretty easy to fix both the issues, cause at the end, this is a dumb piece of metal, isn't it? My camera cost me $35 so Novoflex would be probably a "bad" choice. I think I'll keep K&F, but yes, their quality, workmanship, fit and finish are junk-ish.

Cheers,
Zang

The next one I pushed far into the HDR direction to better show shadows, highlights and bokeh balls
