There are more fancy & expensive prime lenses on the market now than ten year ago, when big zooms were all the rage, maybe that's why people let go of this not-so-perfect lens. Also, with all those adapters (e.g. for mirrorless, including m43) there may be more customers.

from the Ai (Z6)  :o :o :o

the blades are different, i like the Ai-S more ::)

On digital cameras, I would prefer the Ai versions in general for longer focus throw, especially in terms of fast lenses.  Ais 50/1.2 was very tricky to focus between 5m and infinity.  Seven-blade aperture for such a fast lens is not nice, though.

Maybe Cosina 58/1.4?  It should offer slimilar DOF to that of 50/1.2.

It's very interesting how different the bokeh rendering of the 50mm f1.2 is as compared to the earlier 55mm f1.2. For those who like smooth bokeh the 50mm is definitely better, but those who like the so-called "bokeh bubbles" the 55 is worth a look.

Eh.  It is all but guaranteed the 50/1.2S will have the modern corrected look, so it really depends on how you use your 50 wide open.  The S will not be as flattering for people, which is what I shoot at 50/1.2 for, so I doubt I will ever bother with the S.

I will try the "S". I love the "modern" look of lenses like the 1.4/24G or the 1.4/58G, 1.4/205E or the 2.0/200VR ... all of these are magical and not only picture making machines like the character free 2.8/24-70G and many other lenses that are simply too perfect...

OK. Now I know what my next buy will be.

I found that the interesting bokeh effects of the 55/1.2 (a K/Ai copy) increased as the lens was focused closer. I liked the effect at 1 meter and closer, but the effect faded away at long distances.
